  1. Winter Storm Watches issued in middle upper counties of TN.
  2. WBIR has our area forecasted for 3 to 5 inches of snow on the evening of Feb 19. I'm in Oak Ridge, TN.
  3. We have a light dusting so far in Oak Ridge TN, with a steady snow/sleet/rain falling. 35 degrees. We also have biscuits in the oven and sausage gravy on the stove. Smelling good up in here:)
  4. I'm almost 70 years old and have lived in East TN most of my life. The Feb 1996 storm that you mention John, is the most memorable to me as far as the snow and cold. You couldn't see grass or pavement for about 2 weeks here in Oak Ridge. 22 inches was measured at my house and it snowed off and on for a week. It was very cold and and I've never seen snow come down that hard. We were in sledding heaven! The blizzard of 93 pales in comparison as far as Oak Ridge goes, IMO. Though the thundersnow was awesome and the snow was deep, it went away quickly.
  5. Finally changed over to snow. Took the dog for a walk just now and we're almost 3 inches.
  6. Actually just went outside and there's a light rain falling. Is it expected to turn to snow in my area, I hope? I guess the ol warm nose decided to move north of I-40. I'm in Oak Ridge.
  7. This dry slot stuff confuses the crap out of me when the radar is showing snow.
  8. I'm surprised too. It's been cold and snowing all day, but not accumulating as I expected. With that said. I'm hoping the heavier returns I'm seeing will continue. Currently 28 degrees. I live at one of the highest elevations, and we usually see a little more accumulation than elsewhere in town.
  9. Just got out and measured several places. Exactly 1.5 inches. Oak Ridge, TN
  10. I'm in Oak Ridge too and it's really coming down at a good rate and accumulating. I'm thinking we have about 2 inches but not sure. If I weren't watching Gunsmoke right now (and constantly looking out the window at the same time lol) I'd get off my lazy butt and get outside with my ruler. This snow is beautiful!!
  11. It started snowing in Oak Ridge, TN around 10:45am. Very fine flakes but steady. I'd consider what we have on the ground to be a heavy dusting.

  13. Someone posted earlier that it's an IT issue and being worked on.
  14. Mine too. I'm in Oak Ridge. Weird...
  15. This is off topic but I have a quick question. I'm not able to sort my threads so that the most recent replies put this thread at the top. Is that because it's not pinned? I hope I'm making sense. Love this forum and all the great info and input! Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  16. It's 28 here in Oak Ridge, TN and we have what looks to be 3 or 4 inches so far. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  17. I can relate! I tried to sleep but kept dreaming I was waking up and it was warm and rainy. In my dream I would go back to bed feeling disappointed. This happened three times and when I finally did get up I was apprehensive about looking outside. But lo and behold, it is a winter wonderland! About an inch and still light snow falling. It's 29 degrees here in Oak Ridge, TN. I'm so looking forward to a day of falling snow. That's a rarity these days! Is there a way to tell where posters live? I check their profile but don't see a location. Folks are posting their current weather conditions and it would be good to know the location they're talking about. Everyone be safe and enjoy the snow! Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

  19. So true, John. It's hard to find any info on it. I went to the library and found what the local newspaper had documented, and I also found something online about it being an unusual event for Anderson Co, but that was scant. Folks talk about the blizzard of '93 but never the snowstorms of '96. The blizzard in my town was incredible because of the thundersnow and we did get several inches, but as I recall it was gone in a few days. Of course it was mid March so that's to be expected! It just doesn't have the impact for me that '96 did. I do love me some snow. [emoji3587][emoji3587][emoji3587] Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
  20. I live in Anderson County, TN in Oak Ridge and the snow we had in Feb 1996 was incredible. One of the best I've seen in my life time and I'm 68 yrs old. With that particular storm, the mets were not predicting snow, but heavy ice. In inches. The thought of it icing that much was scary. That evening it started sleeting and 30 min later changed to all snow and stayed snow. Never had any ice thank goodness. Here in town we got about 18 inches and I have never seen snow fall that heavily, and straight down cause there was no wind. Businesses closed and people were walking instead of driving. The streets were literally snow packed and it snowed off and on for two weeks. We did a LOT of sledding! Anyway, sorry to be so long with my post, but it truly was a magical time. I even journaled it and glad I did! I just wished I'd gotten some pics! Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
