The models are never in total agreement on just about anything. People living in vulnerable areas should prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Big steps on this stairway.

What jumped out at me on the above graphic was the fact they now have Milton as a major at 1pm Tuesday. A full 24 hours before landfall. Just a few hours ago they said it may approach major status just before landfall.

It looks like another storm with a precursor event. 3. Areas of heavy rainfall will impact portions of Florida Sunday and Monday well ahead of the tropical system, with heavy rainfall more directly related to the system expected by later Tuesday through Wednesday. This rainfall brings the risk of flash, urban, and areal flooding, along with minor to isolated moderate river flooding.

Maps are pretty and odds are odds but people need to remember that there is just as high a chance that the same thing will happen next year as there was it could happen this year.

Here ya go sport. Learn something while you’re here. Helene Origin and Meaning The name Helene is a girl's name of French origin meaning "bright, shining one". Whether it's pronounced with an "een" or an "aine" or an "enn" sound at the end, Helene doesn't feel as current the more forthright Helen or the airier Helena. Helene reached a high of Number 228 in the US in 1916, when ene, ine and een names were all the fashion, and stayed in the Top 500 until 1962, making a final exit in 1970. It still ranks well in its native France, and even more in Norway (#70). Model Heidi Klum's daughter 'Leni' has Helene on her birth certificate.

I agree with you 100%. That’s why I started my post with, “True”.
-
True, but Helene will be what is remembered. In WWII we bombed Hiroshima for over two years. Which bombing do you remember>
-
It’s Helene. And yes, almost certainly.

Find a container or bucket. Surely there is standing water somewhere and use it to flush the toilet. Dirty water for sure but I’ll bet it smells better than what is in there now.

One thing Ryan does that I think local TV stations should copy is the way he gives out a location and future path of a tornado. Local news usually uses highway numbers and street names. You would be amazed at how many people know them name of the street they live on and that’s about it. It isn’t helpful for them if you say the tornado is moving across Highway 43 and will soon intersect Franklin St. Ryan does say the same thing but then quickly follows it with, the tornado is about to move over Billy Bob’s car lot on Highway 43 and is headed toward the Walmart on Franklin St.. If you are near that area take cover now.

I'm glad everyone is safe. Some rough days ahead but things can be replaced.

Chimney Rock. I was hoping this was fake but I don't think it is. If anyone knows for sure I will delete if faked.

What a clusterfuck. I wonder how many people will ignore the next evacuation order.

Hate to say this but the sun just popped out here. ~While I had quite a bit of rain prior days only 1.17” since midnight with the highest wind gust of 32mph. We have quite a lot of family in Boone area. Obviously a total different story. Have contacted almost all and they are all still in their homes. No power of course but that’s about it.

Well then. I’m taking my assurance back. You’re in trouble now.

My advice, since it is already night, is to stay put. The top of Beech experiences 80 mile per hour winds most winters. They don’t build those condos with ¼ inch plywood.

Has anyone else heard this? According to reports, officials in Perry, FL have announced a 7:30 curfew. Anyone on the streets after that time will be arrested, including media. And I assume, storm chasers.
-
Take this to banter or wait until after the storm has passed.

If I heard right Helene is expected to be a Cat 2 near Albany, GA.
-
Drop it.

Then you might want to consider getting familiar with some sources before we are in the middle of a major event.

Another thing to consider whatever the wind speed. It has been my experience, and I have been in a few hurricanes, that there is a large difference between a land falling hurricane that is weakening and one that is strengthening. It is hard to explain but a strengthening cane seems more violent. The wind ratchets up and down rapidly with higher gusts. A weakening cane the wind seems more steady. While there are still gusts they seem to increase more gradually instead of suddenly slamming you without warning. Just my experience, I am certainly not a met.
