My daughter went out around 1020-1030 last night and caught the beginning of the second substorm. Wish we knew it was coming! PSA to all my neighbors…you don’t have to keep your porch lights on 24/7. It’s bad for birds, bugs, and viewing the night sky.

We did a mini-chase to Howard county conservancy which was packed with people with the same idea. So we went across the street. Was faintly naked eye visible but nowhere near the sunset event.
-
Crazy how bright it was with twilight still present!
-
Can’t see it with naked eye now. Hope it pulses back.

Aurora already seen in Maine with some twilight still. Looks like it might not be May 10th repeat. But could be second best of this solar cycle perhaps.

Mini-chasing around 815 with the whole family. Guessing their patience will be 15-30 mins so need a show then!

Just kinda forgot last month and now feels too late. Happy to pass the torch to you or anyone who wants to take it over!

This was about an hour later and I don’t see that faint red/pink/purple hue. So I think I did catch a little bit of real aurora glow around 815 yesterday.

Naked eye visible aurora reports from Shenandoah area. Maybe there’s a tiny red glow in this phone pic I just took?
