  1. Landed in Mexico yesterday (Thursday) to the exact same conditions we had on Wednesday, 95 with dews deep into the 70’s. 17 degree difference in latitude. Only difference was the breeze here vs none in Long Island. Crazy how our climate is literally semi-tropical.
  2. I’m not ready for the cold, even if it’s largely muted and transient nowadays.
  3. Car thermometer reading 97 in Plainview. My PWS is at 91, down from 95.
  4. Storms missed to the east and missing to the west, at least we got some loud Florida-style thunder from the storms to the east.
  5. Looks like a volcanic eruption over the sound.
  6. 75/62 split today. Okay for May or October but not August, thankfully it was sunny so it felt warmer.
  7. Every major northbound road is disgusting right now.
  8. Training closing in on my PWS. I think I recall thunderstorms happening a few hours after the 2014 event as well, but I’m not sure.
  9. Rolling thunder on the south shore looking north. 0.5x camera, clouds are much more massive in person.
  10. I see convection bubbling towards the north shore from Sunrise Highway.
  11. 8.40” storm total. Radar estimate over 11”. We went from less than 3” between 8/1-8/17 to over 11” for the month so far now, more than tripling the previous amount in just a few hours. It’s a good thing this area doesn’t flood like that (I believe anyway), although I did hear fire trucks in the distance.
  12. 6.97” and counting. This is easily the most extreme rain event since August 2014 tonight, the event that made me buy a rain gauge and eventually an actual PWS.
  13. Rates nearing 4” per hour with rumbles of thunder, I’m about to surpass my 8/1-8/17 monthly rainfall total in a minute or so.
  14. Storms built a little to the south over me, alternating between 2-3” per hour rates and nothing every couple of minutes on the very southern edge of this blob of storms.
  15. Yesterday’s high was today’s low, both 70 at midnight. Sunny and windy with dews in the upper 70’s might be a combination I’ve never experienced until today.
  16. 3 inch per hour rates now, first of the year I believe. Much needed. Only two rumbles of thunder so far, lightning still to the west.
  17. 0.12” from a downpour that came and went. Hopefully the following storms don’t die out before reaching central Suffolk.
  18. Not much sea breeze storms this year for LI despite the consistently high dew points. A couple of summers ago they were popping up every other day like in Florida.
