    It’s usually said in jest but we’ve literally had more salt accumulate than snow. They’ve been putting it down for no reason at all.

    A few hours ago I was near Bald Hill (~300 ft ASL) when it flipped from rain to light snow and then rain again on the other side. Never experienced that before.

    I’m always reluctant to cancel a winter this early, as much as I’d love to. But I’ve never seen bulbs come up this early and this much insect activity this time of year, the buds on some trees look a couple of weeks away from opening. First time seeing worms in January too. The dead of winter is very much alive right now.

    If the rest of this month + Feb are going to be torchy, and if next December doesn’t have any abnormal cold snaps, it’s entirely possible that some annual minimum temp records are in jeopardy.

    59 here. Got in the car and had to turn the AC on for a bit.

    36 now and the winds seem to be getting stronger.

    Pressure bottomed out at 980.7, now up to 982.5. I believe the lowest in my station’s 5 year history.

    Meanwhile it looks and feels like spring in eastern Suffolk.

    Squall line was short lived in Riverhead, sun’s back out again out with very tiny hail still falling. Temp is 48. Winds picking up again after a lull. I was in Costco and the rain/hail was so loud you could hear it inside despite all the commotion. This is my 3rd time seeing hail this year, after not having seen any ever before this year.

    Nice, mild and sunny in Riverhead.

    0.55” event total so far. Currently 49, down from 58. Pressure is 985 mb. Lowest I’ve seen in a while.

    Arctic air out of the WSW just sounds so wrong.

    I’d rather it be mild too, it’s the extreme cold that I hate, but knowing there’s a warm up on the other side of this cold takes the sting out just a little for me. I expect to see many more potholes after this rain + deep freeze, which always sucks.
