  1. I know I'm late to the news, and I don't know you personally JoMo, but I'm glad you are ok! Hope that the recovery is quick for you and your town!
  2. I agree, too many and it's very sad. I shudder to think about what would of happened as well if the instability was allowed to spread farther north.
  3. You're right it would present problems if other storms were being tracked. To go along with your idea though, maybe a network of smaller radars could be placed on top of cell phone towers. They wouldn't have to have as long of a range as the current radars (maybe only 30 miles or so), so they should be able to fit in a smaller dome and wouldn't need as much power.
  4. Here's a clickable image of all the tornado reports for today so far. http://www.weather.com/outlook/weather-news/news/articles/tornado-outbreak-april-27_2011-04-27
  5. Agree with you completely. With an outbreak this massive, it's going to take a while to search all the buildings and get everyone accounted for. Especially now that it's dark out it's going to take even longer. Broadcasting reports is one thing, but speculating on whether those reports are right or wrong is way to early to do that.
  6. That's what looks like is happening. Might be why SPC put metro Atlanta into the high risk in the most recent outlook.
  7. ABC 33/40 said they didn't know the breakdown as of yet, but they said that's just from Alabama today. Also about the sirens not working today, mainly places were without power from this morning's storms, which may have caused the sirens to not be able to be sounded.

  9. ABC 33/40 - Mark Kelly with Jefferson County EMA saying "numerous fatalities" in Pleasant Grove area.
  10. The radar beams bounce off of rain drops and the reflectivity shows on the radar. The same thing happens when there's debris, it's the radar beam bouncing off of that.
  11. Completely agree, James Spann is one of the best out there. New PDS watch for NW Georgia until 2am ET. 80/70 tornado probs.
  12. That and this mornings storms and the damage to the infrastructure may have played a factor in that as well.
  13. WFAA - Saying that the town of Phil Campbell was "wiped out".
  14. This is history we are seeing. Hope it lifts before it gets to Birmingham, but all the conditions are favorable for this to continue for quite a while. On another note, Alabama is lucky to have someone as good as James Spann.
  15. Hard to judge by the webcam view, but has to be 1/2 mile to a mile wide.
  16. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/ABC-33-40-Main# Looks like a large wedge on skycam coming into Tuscaloosa.
  17. Agreed, currently 33 separate tornado warnings, many for multiple counties. I don't remember the last time I've seen this. Unbelievable.
  18. Andy Gabrielson has very strong rotation on cam on storm near Philadelphia, MS. Andy Gabrielson Cam
  19. Andy Gabrielson Andy is on the storm NE of Jackson, MS. He should be seeing something soon, he's right out in front of it.
