  1. In what I can only assume was a bizarre flow direction I had more snow here at the house than Tynecastle did 700ft above me. Granted we only had about 3/4" but Boone got nothing and Tynecastle had a light dusting yesterday morning. Very weird. First time that's ever happened.
  2. Left Boone with nothing on the ground and got home to a good coating here in Foscoe. Coming down hard around Salvation Army and roads slicking up. Nice surprise.
  3. Flurries reaching down towards Atlanta today. Impressive storm system. Sunny here ha.
  4. STILL RAIN HERE. 33 and raining. Snow literally in every direction from me. Mixed briefly but then right back to rain. *sigh*
  5. Wet flakes mixing in up on Beech in the heavier precip.
  6. Round 2 incoming. Interested to see if we can get some snow out of this run.
  7. Yessir. We're warming up slowly. Probably change over to cold rain soon enough. Not a lot of buildup on the trees but word is the roads are pretty bad. Maybe 2/10" on the deck.
  8. Still sitting at 28 here. First real ice potential since I moved to this part of the county so I'm interested to see how it goes in this little valley.
  9. 0z HRRR out to hr 5 and already a significant temp adjustment to the cooler side.
  10. Already down to 30 in Banner Elk. Dropping real quick.
  11. Yeah my only problem with that, for the mountains, is that the Boone area starts off in the upper-20s from what I've seen. Possibly a little cooler than that in the prime CAD areas. Off the mountain the totals definitely won't be as catastrophic as the NAM more than likely but I could see the northern mountain areas raking in a half inch of ice if things play out right. Personally I'm good with a 33 and rain day over any zr.
  12. Yeah looks like both the RGEM and NAM keep the 221 corridor from Newland north in the hot seat. HRRR is colder and would be some great sleet-sledding weather.
  13. Worth noting the RGEM also keeps the part of the northern escarpment up towards Boone below freezing for the entire event. Changes to snow at the end. 1/2-3/4" of QPF.
  14. It's the NAM even a third might be generous. It wildly overstates upslope precip totals in most events. Did the same thing a couple years ago with a similar system. The HRRR is probably more on the right track with its total qpf of .6 or so for the favored areas.
  15. Well, first WSW of the season from Blacksburg for MBY. Greenville just with a WWA for the rest of the area;. Should be a pretty interesting day tomorrow. HRRR showing a solid dry slot and is much lower in precip totals overall than the NAM (surprise, surprise).
  16. Yeah just came down from Banner Elk and it was coming down solid. Roads starting to get covered a bit.
  17. Looks like it's snow for most of the storm to me. Very interesting. HRRR not known for running cold.
  18. Nothing like a good old fashioned flizzard day.
  19. Yeah TT doesn't have soundings but looks like a pretty strong/deep CAD. It has a tendency to overdo that stuff but definitely not a great look for those wanting to have power on Wednesday afternoon.
  20. Interesting little system on the 18z GFS. Also has a nice gulf low next weekend and a nice NWFS event for Christmas. Fingers crossed.
  21. Started off as rain but swapped to snow. Just starting to stick but coming down at a decent clip.
  22. 18z NAM continuing the increased qpf trend.
