  1. Also made it up to Mitchell yesterday. Only had about 4-6" on the ground (park ranger said they measured 3.8" but seemed like more than that to me) but there were a lot of knee deep drifts. Got into a couple sections up to my thighs between Mitchell and Craig on the Black Mountain Crest Trail. Pretty nice weather day honestly, made it up to 21 for a high but super breezy. I had been wondering why their Davis station was only reporting a light breeze and turns out it was frozen solid and couldn't turn freely.
  2. 12z gfs with a very similar look. I'll take this look at day 4/5 every time for a gulf system.
  3. Nice score Bucket! I'm hopefully heading up Mt. Mitchell tomorrow with a buddy. Always wanted to go up in the snow but a long, steep hike in awaits. Interested to see how much snow they have up there after today's NW flow.
  4. Grand total of an inch just down the hill from ya. Gotta love living on a SE slope. Even my 3300ft won't save me.
  5. Been wondering when we'd see a run that actually has that ULL produce. Very intriguing system for sure.
  6. Got a quick dusting here in Foscoe earlier but partly cloudy now. Not a thing in Boone except for on a few cars when I was in town a few minutes ago. Even the normally bad section of the 105 Bypass was clear with just a flurry.
  7. 33 and occasional flizzard here at the house. Starting to stick to raised surfaces.
  8. Clouds definitely have that snow look to them today. Hope everybody cashes in from a good Lakes fetch!
  9. Super breezy at the house today. Noticed a couple buds on my Catawba rhododendron in the yard trying to pop out. Guess it thought we were skipping winter.
  10. 18z GFS has a bizarre ULL end of next week. Also tries really hard to get something going with next week's system.
  11. First day of snow making on Sugar today. At least there's some white somewhere cause it certainly ain't falling from the sky anytime soon.
  12. Not a lick of snow/rime ice showing at the top of Grandfather. First but not the last time we'll see the 3km NAM overdo it.
  13. Down to 37 now and wind really picking up. Here comes the fun.
  14. Only down to 47 here. Need that cold and snow to hurry up and get here before the next hurricane.
  15. 0z 3km a little more amped up on the NWFS Sunday night.
  16. Max gust at KTNB was 35mph. Grandfather Station hit 66. Mt Mitchell only hit 35 weirdly enough.
  17. Been completely calm here outside Boone for the last couple hours. Over 4" of rain though and still raining.
  18. Getting a little gusty here outside Boone. My parents just had a 60mph gust in NE GA. Worst wind seems to be behind the precip.
  19. Lightning flashes tonight. Quite surprising, not used to that in October.
  20. Super breezy here today. I'm a little surprised how slow the color change has been IMBY this year. Still 80-85% green despite several frosts. Even Grandfather is creeping along slower than I had expected. Originally thought it might peak this weekend (highest slopes will) but looks like next week sometime along the Parkway. Good news for any damage that could be done by Delta, though. Hopefully taking a day trip up to West Virginia this Friday. Never been up there during the fall.
  21. Beautiful shots. Really hoping Delta doesn't do too much damage right at peak color next weekend.
  22. 35 with a heavy frost in Foscoe. Had to crank the defrost up to melt the ice on the car at 430 this morning. Lovin it.
  23. Yeah. Still quite a bit of green but almost everything has that yellow tint to it today. I was up on the Parkway the other day and the Stack Rock to Viaduct area was coming along nice. Boone Fork area usually changes fairly early too.
  24. Well that's the solution. It is 2020 after all. The year of the rain.
  25. Another low of 36 with more frost than the other morning. Also quite a bit of fog down along 105 to go along with the frost which was kinda weird.
