2021-2022 Fall/Winter Mountains Thread
Tyler Penland replied to BlueRidgeFolklore's topic in Southeastern States
18z GFS with a nice NWF event around Halloween. I'll be at the Martinsville cup race on Halloween so I can pretty much guarantee cold, damp weather. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk -

GFS doubling down on a nice cold snap late next week. Still in the extended but nice to see it showing a widespread freeze for the mountains. -

First off congrats met! I got married down in Maggie a couple years ago. Absolutely love that area and hope to live down there one day. Had a weird couple temp days. Stalled at 44 on Monday morning while it was cooler pretty much all around. Looked like we were gonna stall around 47 last night but we made it beneath the inversion about 3AM and hit 36 with some frost. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk -

The rain rates in these showers today has been insane. I'm well over 3" on the day and this last batch maxed at 1.70" an hour. Was raining so hard in Blowing Rock around 6:20 you couldn't see across the parking lot. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk -

Yeah I'm worried about what color there is on Grandfather surviving this week. I've got some days off to do some photography next week but there may not be a whole lot to see, particularly with it not being all that cool to get lower elevations going too. -

Meh. Doesn't look like a scorcher either. I'm perfectly fine with the pattern we've had this past week. Absolutely beautiful out and just cool enough to get the leaves started. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk -

I'll have the pitchfork ready if this winter bombs. Looks like a brief warm snap this week but then cooler by next weekend. I'm ready for the leaves to get going. -

Not me. I'm 0/2 on good winters when I started it, though I did see that 16"er one of those winters (and absolutely nothing else). Made it to 38 at the house with patchy frost, especially down along the creek. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk- 310 replies

I was driving home in that severe warning earlier and that line meant business. Limbs and leaves going everywhere and pushing the car around. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk- 310 replies

Worst of it has arrived here at the house. Been out of power for 3 hours. Boone had gusts to near 40 earlier which took down a bunch of trees. Still very breezy on this last band. Hope you folks down south are staying safe tonight. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk- 310 replies

I'm curious why Blacksburg hasn't issued a FFW for Watauga/Ashe Counties at least. Their AFD calls for up to 6" and mentions flooding concerns but no watch. Also worth noting my station picked up a 1.79"/hr rate in the middle of that last batch at 6:13PM. The dry rut that is now a full blown creek next to my house seems to agree.- 310 replies

Might get pretty rough along the escarpment. GSP seems pretty worried about flooding. Last AFD was very concerning.- 310 replies

Yeah for now. I switched jobs back in April but whenever a promotion comes down the line I'll most likely be moving quite a ways. Staying in the southeast region but could wind up anywhere. Got at least one more winter up here I hope, though. Excited to see what the baby thinks of snow when it comes.- 310 replies

At least you moved down in a fairly cool summer. I wish I could afford a Tacoma but Toyota in general is a bit out of my budget. Ha. Nice trucks though. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk- 310 replies
