  1. Had planned to hit up West Virginia next week for whatever leaves are left, particularly around the NRG but the models are telling me I might be changing seasons entirely. Looks like a good amount of snow in the mountains up there. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  2. Yeah they're pretty solid. They held up decent through the rain but we'll see what the wind does tonight. However just be aware traffic is going to be a nightmare moreso than usual. The Wooly Worm Festival and Valle Crucis Fair are this weekend and we're expecting the biggest single day traffic influx of the year. Our business in Blowing Rock that day is comparable to Black Friday. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  3. Colors are phenomenal this year. Glad to see some clouds around keeping things interesting despite the lack of rain. Worked out for a spectacular sunset last night. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  4. Talk about a front that's mellowed out. Looking much less sharp than the past couple days had shown. Maybe some light showers and not much of a cold press. I'll take it, though, the longer fall photography season lasts the better. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  5. 2nd straight day with a low of exactly 34.2°. Looks like some big winds possible behind the front Friday that might put an end to high elevation leaf season. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  6. What a nice stretch of weather. Absolutely perfect for leaf season. The colors have been excellent this year so far. Also saw the 18z GFS with our first flurries by the 18th. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  7. Saw video of snow down near Waynesville on the Parkway this morning. Posted by Lokel Yokel on FB. Winter is definitely on the way. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  8. Made it to 36 here at the house. Camped up on Hawksbill in the Gorge last night and not sure what the temp was but it was breezy and cold this morning. Nice refreshing camping weather. I'm betting we see peak leaf color in 10 days on Grandfather at the current rate. Here's sunset last night. Already quite a bit of color in the Gorge in the exposed areas. They always change early though. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  9. 18z GFS did it again. The NAM is on a different planet with landfall in Myrtle Beach and barely any rain in WNC. Really strange look. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  10. Here are the 0z Euro and ICON. I got my maps backwards it was the ICON with the more widespread high numbers. Euro still no slouch and you have to figure neither of these models are going to handle the upslope SE slow well at all. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  11. Really not liking the looks of Ian's inland track. 0z Euro dumped double digit rains for most of the board. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  12. Yeah I'm concerned about the potential flood risk. We'll see how it evolves though. Verbatim the Euro is a widespread 4-6" for most of the SW facing slopes (particularly bad for the SW mountains) and the GFS is widespread 2-4". Those are concerning totals from low-res globals at this range.
  13. Absolutely loving today. Bottomed our at 41 with a high of 63. Great night for a fire out as well. This will really get the leaves going. Hoping for a great leaf year, it's been a bit since we had a real killer one. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  14. Short heat wave this week but looking mighty nice into next weekend. Maybe another round of high elevation 30s and low-40s for the rest of us. That'll get the leaves going right on time. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  15. Made it to 44 this morning. Absolutely fantastic. Loving this dry stretch, it's been a long time coming. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  16. Got home from the race last night to a solid half inch. Tack that into the half inch we had yesterday morning before it melted and I managed an event total of 1" which is my first measurable snowfall in April since moving here in 2015. Wild. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  17. Finally sticking to the grass. Lovin it. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  18. So. Much. Virga. Today. So much surface dry air to burn through. Glad to see you SW mountain folk aren't having that issue. Edit: aaaand it's raining? Cool. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  19. First lightning strikes up around Bristol. Those dynamics will be fun this afternoon. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  20. Blowing Rock has joined the "its snowing outside" club. Nice little shower rolling through. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
  21. Those 500mb maps look wild towards the end of that run. Good ole GooFuS. If the 3km NAM verifies we could see some thundersnow in the squalls tomorrow evening. It's pretty generous in moisture with a second wave Saturday afternoon.
  22. I can guarantee it happening this time. Going to the Martinsville race with my dad on Saturday night with a 745P start time. Looks straight up cold. Thankfully they shortened it to 400 laps.
  23. Seen a few flakes mixing in here a little bit ago. Actually had a light rain/sleet/snow mix going all at once for about 10 minutes. Just April saying hello.
  24. Check back early tomorrow morning. I'm betting you'll get a dusting. That spot over into Moses Cone/Flat Top usually does better than spots around in flow snow. That whole upper half of Shulls Mill didn't completely melt off in spots until a couple weeks ago.
  25. We're at 38 with rain/pinger mix here IMBY. Should switch over soon. Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
