  1. Models flipping rain to snow Regarding the Thu-Fri system, it now appears more likely (but still not definite) that northern and southern streams will stay separated until phasing occurs to the east of our region. This maintains a more positive/neutral tilt which forces a more offshore track of surface low, keeping most of its precipitation offshore as well. That being said, there may be enough lift from northern stream trough and sufficient moisture to generate some light rain or even some light snow depending upon surface temperature. Right now models are showing an initially mild airmass which favors rain, but eventually colder air is drawn into region behind departing system, which could result in a changeover to light snow later Thu night into Fri (assuming enough moisture remains). In any case, this looks to be a light precipitation event with very minor impacts. We`re probably not looking for more than an inch or so of accumulation (especially in the hills) according to ensemble probabilities. Canadian ensemble is most aggressive and GEFS/EPS less so. But it should be noted that these probabilities are based upon straight 10:1 snow to liquid ratios and do not take surface temps into account. It may end up being a little too warm to allow much snow to stick outside of the higher elevations.
  2. Maybe an inch or two in the hills Thursday night.
  3. Let’s see if we can gin up a big icestorm . Pattern is ripe
  4. There’s a limit how far in this pattern . Ninos like to stay somewhat south
  5. No one knows. It’s never been used or heard of
  6. What a terrible AFD from BOX. No mention of any snow or anything and then they end with a saying that not one person has ever heard of or used ever. Temperatures to start the New Year trend towards being mild in the low and middle-40s, with average highs generally mid to upper-30s. But the overnight lows, in particular Monday night into Tuesday does have the potential to get fairly cold given clearing sky cover and light wind... lows could drop into the upper-teens and low-20s. From there temperatures do moderate and return to more seasonable lows Tuesday and Wednesday night in the mid and upper-20s. Late week into the weekend the trend is for cooler conditions if the low develops and CAA overtakes the region. As they say, pounds of time.

  9. This basically is if it snows from one of the first two or not and then the screamer redux from 2 weeks ago is already locked . So if we lay any snow down it’s quickly wiped . So I’m already worrying about snow melt
  10. It’s better than talking about the next 3 Rainers coming next week. At least sharing some great music with folks
  11. Yup. He literally can do it all. The Steeldrivers stuff is awesome . A lot of it sounds like his solo stuff now.
  12. I bet most folks didn’t know he was in a southern rock band called The Jompson Brothers and there’s a full album from 2010. That got put on hold when he became the biggest songwriter in Nashville and then his solo career went nuts. And also was in a bluegrass type band called The Steeldrivers prior to that
  13. We all seriously hope you like and appreciate Stape.
