I think the most destructive storms we've had the last decade were either last year or year before when storms fired along back door cold front moving to the south west. Definitely some irony in that. Besides those storms it's post front dry wind storms and drought for damage done in our area. Even last year when I got caught under that insane rain band from the tropical remnants picking up 8", it didn't do much widespread due to dry antecedent conditions. As a bartender at a bar literally steps from our capital, with lobbyists, politicians, and workers our overwhelming customers the single best choice we made more than a year ago was a hard ban on discussing politics at the bar. Our TV is either on the food network or Sports. By doing so we created a nice little refuge which people appreciate. A place to discuss things of shared interests that bring us together. The one theme going on 18 months is for us to be forecast a whole lot of qpf in the medium-long turn only for it to completely collapse under 3 days. If any issues in the models need looked at it is this. Even when it's only modest qpf forecasts the ground truth has usually been a 50% or more reduction.
