Anyone know what kind of tree this is? Some type of dogwood? (no flowers though). Curious as to how tall it might get. The guy coming to do our backyward landscaping project is expecting to start Monday afternoon or Tuesday. The disaster is nearly done! Also, be picked out our tree.....it's a red sunrise maple. They'll put that is when they're doing the rest of the job.

Looks great! I need to put down some fertilizer with weed killer. Perhaps this weekend. Meanwhile, marathon lawn growth coming up beginning today. Should be pretty tall for tomorrow's mowing.

Thanks--this is really helpful. I don't think we'll wait beyond this year to plant anything. I just discovered this week that we have a couple chestnut trees tucked behind the garage (I think they're ours). How much of a canopy do they have?

I think that's the nature of fast-growing trees. We're looking for one ourselves....perhaps a weeping willow or a red maple.

Not typically getting them a Lowe's though. They also sell oaks with the option of a box of gypsies.

bump Is there any type of pre-emergent crabgrass prevention that can also control existing broad-leaf crap? It would be great to do this in one fell swoop. I think my seeded areas have effectively 'emerged' so I don't need to worry about that too much. TIA.

What are the thoughts of when to fertilize again (I also need one that has broad-leaf control to take out some clover and such)? Thanks!

It might be that the former owners planted it. It's a shame--the other half of that strip is beautiful thick grass. Anyway--here's my first pic of the year. Trust me that it looks better live and up close than it does in the photo.

What happened to the chestnuts? The dry airmass, breeze, and sun might give you enough drying to mow this afternoon. Rain was total bust here yesterday/last night, only .04". I'll be firing up the mower shortly.

Luke--will this approach keep grass from growing where I put the vinegar stuff down? I want to put grass there and I don't wand a "Round-up" situation.

Thanks guys. It's a pretty big patch of it, primarily on the strip between the sidewalk and the road (do those strips have a name??). What's kind of crazy is that 1/2 the strip is lush grass and then it turns to this. There's a tree that serves as the dividing line so I'm inclined to think they did something intentional. Meanwhile, from the ornery-complainer department.....why don't they make a simple gas can any more? Is there really such a demand for new spout designs? The one I bought (only option as far as I could tell) totally sucks. Dripping gas everywhere.
