  1. Thanks. I've gone ahead and put down soil and raked in some additional seed. If it makes it even a little better, it will have been time/money well spent (and not much of either, frankly). 2/3 of the strip between the sidewalk and street looks like shit, too. Lord knows what the previous owners had going on. The remaining third is lush. Stay tuned on that--and for the backyard follies once that project gets underway.
  2. You stayed above freezing--welcome to summer.
  3. Thanks. I wonder what that area would be prone to it if not the rest of the yard. What will waiting until fall allow? LOL. I miss the serenity of it. That said, I really like having Dunkin' Donuts 1/2 mile away.
  4. Why don't you destroy them before they hatch?
  5. Here’s the disaster spot. The picture makes the rest of the yard look pretty bad too. It’s better in reality.not this area though!
  6. As sure as the sun rises in the east, we will be hearing talk soon enough of life-threatening drought.
  7. Might be wasting my money, but I'm putting some more seed down on the front lawn. There are some bad patches there that suck the big one. Any thoughts on how to best take care of those? I had fertilized the lawn a couple weeks ago Lastly, what are the thoughts on Lesco seed? I just picked some of their sun/shade mix. I used to use the west-county blend from Agway back in Shelburne.
  8. Maples are coming out in full force--I'd say over half have at least budded. I wish the red maple we have would bud. Nada so far.
  9. That's a lot of rain. Looks like 7.49" here, per BOX, though I'm not sure if that monthly report includes what may have fallen after midnight.
  10. Don't confuse correlation with causation. Different animals. Just the same, I doubt there's much correlation beyond the immediate effects (that's why I said 36 hours, but that was pretty arbitrary).
  11. I doubt there's any causation between prior rains and humidity outside of 36 hours or so.
  12. NIce. I'm so glad summer arrived. This string of days in the 40's with a parade of rains as far as you can see--summer of yore.
  13. Was Kevin outside raking the hail from his lawn?? Some real house-shaking thunder overnight. 1.81
  14. At least black bears aren't protective of their cubs like grizzlies. I'd still be cautious intruding. How's that progressing? Meanwhile, what a beautiful late April Friday on tap......summer's here. Not.
  15. Maybe we can continue the past six months of endlessly pointing to "10 days out" for a pattern change.
  16. The fact that my wife is agreeing to move forward with the project despite the cost of it speaks well to what an utter disaster it is.
  17. disaster. lol at JP reference. so true.
  18. The front lawn seems to be coming in pretty nicely with the exception of one patch which is brown/barren. I wonder what the former owner might have spilled there. I had dropped fertilzer and seed on the lawn over the last couple weeks. Hopefully that will take care of that patch (maybe 5 x 5). Fearing it doesn't, I welcome recommendations on how to repair a patch of lawn like that. Meanwhile, just gave the go-ahead to a landscaper for our backyard grading project. I'm not sure if the amount of loam is a good indicator of how much of a disaster this is--but the project is calling for 32 yards of it. He doesn't expect to tackle it until late May/first week of June. Of course, I'm hoping for sooner! Photos to come once this begins.
