  1. Completely off topic.... Managed to get at least two flying animals (bird/bat/both) into the house through a screen that had slid open. Managed to get one cornered in my office (and got the window opened) and the other seems to be in the master bedroom. Hopefullly there aren't more! Ugh!
  2. Thanks. How do you approach it? Cut low, rake/seed/fertllize and just not mow for the next few weeks (with watering of course)?
  3. Holding off on any flood related headlines. 12.0z UKmet and EC came in further S with the heaviest rainfall axis while the 12.0z NAM and 12.3z SREF remain on the N side of guidance. Collaborating with WPC, the EXCESSIVE RAINFALL OUTLOOK for Day 2 was trimmed southward, and with other weather forecast offices, held off from any FLOOD WATCHES. Hopefully with later forecast guidance can we get a better handle on where the more favorable W to E axis of heavy rain will emerge. Reads pretty meh. Oh well, at least we have a return to COC after tomorrow's showers. What an August!
  4. When do folks seed in the fall? I'm thinking September 1 will allow for 6 weeks before anything more than a surprising frost comes in.
  5. ORH down to 59.0/50. Perhaps we might get into lower 50's territory.
  6. Nice. Still 64* at ORH, but mid 50's are a fair bet.
  7. 40* and 52mph winds on the rock pile.
  8. Meh. Meanwhile, 70* at 11:30. It does not suck.
  9. The back is broken. We'll have occasional warm/hot days, but the slide to cooler will not be denied. We soak it in.
  10. Enough of radiational cooling, ORH checks in with it's first 50's in a long time in the CAA of COC.
  11. ORH hit 81* for 30 seconds when the new Delta flight landed.
  12. The global warming crowd and the media will have a field day in 2020 saying it's been so warm we needed to move our goal posts. They'll ignore that it's a scheduled change. Mark my words.
  13. Can you post a picture of your Davis showing that?
  14. When you consider the average high in July (ORH) is 2* warmer than the average high in August, you can easily see the need for greater departures to achieve the warmer conditions of July. On the topic of the seasonal breaking of summer's back, the sun's now setting before 8:00 beginning today as the rate of daytime loss as really ramped up to 2:20/day. We'll have an additional daytime loss of 59 minutes between today and the end of the month. I suspect Ray's beginning to compile thoughts for his winter outlook......
  15. Wound up with 1.79" at ORH. That was some heavy rain for a while..
  16. ???? Friday Sunny, with a high near 79. West wind 7 to 10 mph. Friday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 59. West wind around 7 mph. Saturday Sunny, with a high near 76. West wind 7 to 10 mph. Saturday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 58. Northwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Sunday Sunny, with a high near 76. West wind 5 to 9 mph. I do see an 80* rearing it's head next Tuesday though. Is that the 80's' you were referring to?
  17. Drinks at the Blue? I think you're supposed to walk slowly backward.
  18. Folks have been really struggling of late with these types of names. I think it's all been downhill since Morch and Napril.
  19. Just a sensor for a cheap thermometer so I can get some semblance of what's up with my backyard. Too bad none of the cheap ones only report humidity and not dew points--I hate doing the math. I can get mostly shade, but the afternoon's still going to get hit with the sun. *** on all those readings. Cape Cod: The Oklahoma of Massachusetts.
  20. So----here's my remedial question of the day...... I need to get some type of cheap station/sensor for mby readings. The challenge is where to place the sensor. I'm not going to put a stake in the yard to mount it. So, here are my options: 1) affix to the house itself (north side to minimize direct sun???) 2) there is a 15' high deck off the west side--I could mount it on one of the outer piers, keeping it away from the house 3) we have a 2-story unheated detached garage to which I could affix it. 4) there is a stockade-type privacy fence in the back (east facing) 5) there is a utility pole in the back corner with some growth around it (I want to keep the growth to mask the pole a little) Note that the house and garage are both white so that would mitigate some of the structural heating. Feedback/recommendations are welcome.
