  1. Got seed down on the front lawn last evening; hopefully that will fill in some rough areas and generally provide some further density. I had a landscaper take a look at the backyard disaster. Grading, filling, removal of a lot of crap. Still waiting on an estimate.
  2. I will likely put down some seed today. The upcoming several days will provide some natural watering.
  3. Thanks....I raked it out yesterday. With the upcoming rains, I feel good about putting the fertilizer in. It's not a pre-emergent, but I think I'll let it do its stuff and then put down seed. Perhaps next weekend will work given the rains this week to help the fertlizer get drawn in.
  4. I would not fertilize anywhere near my water supply.
  5. Bumping this up for feedback before I put down any fertilizer (before tomorrow night's rain seems like a good time to get it down). Advice on my 3 steps above welcome!
  6. Well, I think we're doing some major overhaul of the backyard disaster, so I have nothing to concern myself with that at this point. In the front though, I'm looking to just do a quick and dirty job without any real focus on ph-levels or any such things. So......I'm guessing I need to: 1) rake out all the dead stuff 2) fertilize--any suggestions of type? I figure that's more a concern for me at this stage than brand 3) seed. How long after I fertilize? Thanks!
  7. The blistering BDL temps don't help much either. Kidding aside--he does a great job.
  8. I'm seeing what an utter disaster the back yard is at this new pit. They once had a pool that they must have had to do some excavation for. I need to bring in a shitload stuff and topsoil to work that. I"m not sure that's going to be happening this year. I think the front/side will be salvagable. A few quick questions: 1) I imagine step one is just getting a soil test. Do they have those at home depot/lowes? 2) Are there any initial things I should do regardless of the test results wrt to treatment? 3) The front is east facing with little shade I'm guessing until mid-afternoon. Would you use a full sun seed for that or would a mix suffice? 4) The side is more shaded and is on the north side. I'm guessing a sun/shade mix would suffice on that as I'm not sure how 'shady' a true shade mix requires.
  9. Over 30 hours of continuous snow at this point. I'm not sure if we can claim "days and days", but "days" works.
  10. Congrats, Ray--that's awesome. Makes for a great winter finale. With the exception of an hour or so yesterday afternoon, I haven't been able to see across the river since the snow started. No idea of accumulations. We've probably received close to 10" since the end of the day yesterday. Snowing nicely now, progged daytime accumulations today of 1-3".
  11. We even has some pretty healthy waves coming in. I'm not sure what the winds are, the statement that was issued a couple hours ago said up to 50mph gusts. Nice. Congrats to you. Looks like you positioned yourself just right--just to your west not so much. Ripping here.
  12. Great--I'm glad s/he is a spotter. It's going to be tough to get anything accurate. I've been in 1/4 visibility for what seems like hours and I have no snow on my car, a road that's mostly snow-free and a deck that doesn't have a flake.
  13. Getting smoked down here. Little to show for it with the howling winds I have no snow on the deck, very little knew snow in the yard and the street it blown clear. I hope they're getting good measurements away from the water.
  14. Beautiful shot. It's just dumping big flakes here at Pit2. Meanwhile Pit1 is getting rocked under that band. FTW in both places.
  15. FTW at Pit2: ...Snowfall rates will reach 1 to 3 inches per hour late this morning... A band of very heavy snow in the Gulf of Maine will continue to rotate to the northwest towards the coastline this morning. Blizzard conditions are expected with winds gusting to as high as 50 mph, leading to near zero visibilities and whiteout conditions. Expect significant blowing and drifting snow with very heavy snow continuing through the afternoon hours.
  16. IT's been ripping here for about 2 hours with the wind howling. Deck, car and street are all blown free of snow. I hope people can measure someplace to see what actually comes down. No measurements will work here. Looks like Pit1 and Hippy are doing great in this. SN+ and 29* at Pit2
  17. That's one helluva rate. Snow's just started here; strong winds. 31*
  18. Nice to see that narrow weenie band on the Pit. Hopefully the heavy stuff from Scooter through RI can inch back to Gynx and Kevin. Looks like Pawcatuc through SRI is taking it on the chin. 27.4* at the Pit--should be dry there. I can live with that. The probabiliies table looks to have me maxing out between 21-25". Looks like the flakes should be starting here in an hour or so. Winds cranking. I'm expecting very little snow to measure here. This will be blown up the road.
  19. Patiently awaiting first flakes. Look to be about another 1.5-2 hours away. Meanwhile, the wind is already cranking here at Pit2. It's nice to have a blizzard warning--something we're not too accustomed to in GC. Warm. 32*
  20. Im hoping gor the best. I have about 3 mile view looking north up the river. Im keeping my fingers crossed.
  21. I had that in the October storm for about 4-5 hours straight or so. Not quite as long as Mitch, but long anough to pile up 28", IIRC. A beautiful powder storm up this way. No leaves on the trees up here to cause issues even if it hadn't been powdery. Oct 11 was one of my favorites of all time. The combination of a block buster storm, the first storm of the season, and actually not being in season mark it as memorable.
  22. Hi, Jay. Happy to be in the friend's list!

I think you might miss out on some good stuff after T-giving if you're back in beantown. Still good to be home, eh?
