I'd classify these as "arctic hounds howling in the distance". Squalls notwithstanding, single digits is not too traumatic. As far as the rest of your post, totally agree.

I was down in Marion (south coast) this morning. The pastier snow they had looked utterly fantastic. Prettiest town in the world--or at least the state.

Just broke in the new snowblower. It works. The NWS employee in Westborough reported 8.9". I'll go with that.
