  1. Yeah. Drove by Sapphire Valley yesterday on a tour of local waterfalls. It was rather pathetic-looking. There may not be any snow left at all after today's torrents. Dry falls on the Cullasaja River was rip-rouring, though:
  2. That picture never grows old, Burns. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  3. It was simply near a RR crossing. Pulled into a volunteer FD right next to it. Hopped out of the car and snapped a few pics near the tracks. Here it is on Google Maps: The other one was from the church parking lot in this Google image:
  4. Just got home from CLT. Went north on 16. Nothing on ground until construction zone began. Then nothing in Conover either. Got home and still a good half inch here. Based on my wife's description, I think we had an inch several hours ago before the heaviest stuff ended. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  5. Snow pics from back home in NE Hickory courtesy of my wife. Now, I'm in Charlotte with an ugly 38 and rain... Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  6. Snow pics from in and around Bostic, NC. Great spot for snowfall this morning,@strongwxnc. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  7. Training got canceled early. In Forest City. Now have some time to kill. Maybe head back up 64 toward South Mts. Or maybe head east toward Gastonia. Higher radar returns are that way. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  8. Beautiful heavy snow at Isothermal CC. There for training right now. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  9. BullCity (AKA QueenCity), I'm pretty confident this has been your only decade since 2010, so I don't think anyone can argue with your statement. [emoji16] Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  10. Beautiful pics, Buckethead. Thanks for sharing. I'm quite jealous. Saw a few flurries today at the intersection of I-40 and I-26, but that's the extent of my my winter weather observations so far for this winter.
  11. At least someone's getting the snowstorm of a lifetime... Newfoundland asks for military help
  12. There remains lots of potential in the next several weeks. The 06Z GFS has cool to seasonal temperatures in NC for the entirety of its run following Friday. There is also lots of opportunities for precipitations. The trick is matching the two together. I like our chances.
  13. Ice fog?! Fortunately, it's only "patchy". Can you drive through a fog of ice? Does it hurt to walk into it? Is it penetrable? Just. Crazy. Cold. Amazing. Edit: I just checked their forecast on NWS too. It adds the phrase, "Sunny". Can you actually use that phrase when there are less than 5 hours of "daytime" and the sun will be very low on the horizon? The ice fog may actually obscure it. Edit 2: Reading their AFD is just unreal. Check this out: "For the Fairbanks areas, near power plants, some industrial flurries may occur as the atmosphere wrings out the moisture in the power plant plumes." Industrial flurries! I don't think you should make snow cream with that snow.
  14. ASU with 2 wins (count 'em! - UNC & USC) over Power 5 conference schools! What might have been had they not screwed up against GSU last week? Anyway, Go App! Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk

  16. Same here in Hickory. Amazing lightning show all around. Very vivid CTG lightning strikes between 4:30 - 5:00 PM.
  17. ^Those are truly beautiful, eyewall! Thanks so much for sharing. Number 2 is my favorite, and then number 3. I just made that second picture my desktop background. It's beautiful!
  18. Here comes the heat... Ugh.
  19. I'm at Lake Lure this weekend, but watched that radar signature closely. Fortunately, it weakened considerably before it passed over my house. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
  20. My favorite is the COD: https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/nexrad/index.php?type=GSP-N0Q-0-12
  21. If you are south of I-85, then you should expect even less snow than what has been reported at GSP. So, again, this year isn't too different from normal. Still disappointing, but not completely aberrant.
  22. You live in NW SC, man. Here are the annual (and monthly -- October to May) snowfall totals for the past 15 years or so at GSP: Your 4.3-inch season total this year is only 0.4 inches less than normal. It's also more than 16 of the years listed here. I think it's been a pretty normal year for you as far as totals go. (I also figure you don't actually live at the airport -- Boiling Springs is more north and east of there -- so your totals will vary a bit, but this is the best I can do.) We all want more snow, myself included. (Spring, stay away!) I think the extra bitterness and despair right now is due to the big storm that was had in December. Everyone believed that we were setting up for an epic winter with that early storm. It just hasn't materialized that way, though.
  23. Well, your numbers don't lie. It would be a big jump in viewership. My personal preference for local news in Charlotte is what I gave. I still stand by my statement of interesting weather. There's a lot more snow and ice to forecast out of Charlotte north and west than there is out of Raleigh (as many posters on this site will bemoan). It would be a big loss for our area if he left, but if WRAL would double his salary it might be difficult to refuse. I would have to imagine Panovich has had multiple offers from other stations over the past several years due to his savvy social media interaction, and yet he still resides in Charlotte. So, I hope that will still be the case for the foreseeable future. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk
