Your pictures are beautiful, Buckethead. I totally need to look in to moving to your neighborhood in several years. A man can dream anyway... [emoji16] Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk

Picked up another 1+ inch of rainfall yesterday. (I'm not going to denigrate freezing rain's good name by referring to what fell yesterday as such.) This brings my total to 97.90 inches for the calendar year. Can I make it to 100 inches with about two weeks left in the year?!?! I really hope so, because it seems like such a great landmark event, despite the fact that we don't need anymore rain.

@Bevo, I am not yet old enough to share your sentiment. And, not sure if I ever will be. I'm going to be alongside @strongwxnc enjoying my almost two feet of snow, should I be blessed to see it fall from the sky.

Just a light glaze in the trees. Nothing serious at all here in Hickory.
-
Yeah, I think the serious freezing rain is going to be limited to the extreme edge of the Blue Ridge, in this particular storm. I just don't think we're going to get too much once you get away from there. You're going to need to be west of Marion, west of Lenoir, west of Wilkesboro, etc. to see any significant icing from this storm, IMO. The Hi-Res NAM really highlights that. I will be surprised if I have anything more than a little glistening in the treetops here in Hickory.

Ice Time? Dec. 16ish Possible CAD Event

35/29 here. Dew points aren't low enough to allow for too much wet-bulbing below freezing. -

The HiRes NAM has much lower ice totals than these lower resolution models (e.g., NAM and RGEM). I would tend to give it greater credence and doubt those high totals will realize. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk -

I remember those days, too, Grit. The 1980s were a great decade for winter weather for those that lived in the shadow of the Apps. (I was in Lenoir then.) -

Welcome to the lowlands, Nelson. Not quite as snowy as Boone, by a longshot. But, I hope to see some nice aerials if and when we do get winter precipitation. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk -

Love all the KHKY talk. Keep it coming, guys. [emoji16] Hoping for a cold and thick enough boundary layer to remain mostly sleet. Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk -
Those are some crazy totals you guys are posting now! Over 10 inches for Buckethead?! 15 inches on the Skyway?!

Such beautiful pictures from you guys up in the mountains. Thanks for allowing us to live vicariously through your photos and videos. I am incredibly jealous...

Another month with over 10 inches of rainfall IMBY. That brings my total to just shy of 95 inches! 95! I can't really grasp the magnitude of that number. Crazy. I'm hoping the wet trend can continue through the winter and match up nicely with some cold air...

Griteater's Winter Outlook (20-21)
calculus1 replied to griteater's topic in Weather Forecasting and Discussion
I love the research, time, and thought you put into this, Grit. But, I hate your conclusions. -
I finished with 8.03 inches between last night and this morning! Crazy. The big wet 2020 continues. Now at 91.99 inches IMBY since January 1, which is 41.86 inches ahead of pace on my 8-year annual average of 57.72 inches at this house. We still have more than 1.5 months to go in this calendar year... Can I change my screen name to @Rainforrest? Oh. Wait. We already have one of those.
-
Just insane amounts of rainfall again overnight. 2.81 inches yesterday. More than 4.5 inches already today since midnight. Been outside fighting to keep storm drains clear since 3 AM so my basement doesn't flood again. Gonna call the city to see if we can get some engineers out here to redesign the water flow. This water flow should be better funnelled. Over 91 inches of rainfall for the year...and counting... Sent from my moto e5 supra using Tapatalk

Rain was not that impressive IMBY today (1.15 inches), but I have now climbed above 83 inches for the calendar year, which is just INSANE for this location. I continue to build on the wettest year I've ever had at this location in nine years of living here. Almost 10 inches of rain in October too. I think 100 inches is probably pretty unlikely, but it's definitely not out of the question and what I am currently on pace for this year.
-
And Hurricane Sandy did the trick several years ago.
-
After rainfall from the remnants of Hurricane Delta, I have now recorded over 79 inches of rainfall IMBY, making this the rainiest year on record for my nine years at this location. And...there are still 2.5 months remaining in this calendar year. Wow.
