I feel so helpless. Trying to get back to Old Fort as quickly as possible but fear it won't be until Saturday or Sunday at the earliest...if it's even possible
Will be interesting to read the lessons learned from the forecasting of Helene's track. She's been a good bit east of what the NWS/NHC had been putting out.
Apartment in Asheville (Sweeten Creek) is without power. Old Fort is too.
Really worried about my property in Old Fort. I'm up in the northeast for this week and have tried getting away from work to make it home to prepare. Unofrtunately, won't be able to. Hopefully don't return this weekend to too much damage.
This truly has been a pretty remarkable stretch of weather, especially in regards to the temperatures. No extended periods of extreme heat this summer. Parts of the Carolinas are having one of their top 5 coolest starts to a September on record. It's been pretty rare to be able to say "coolest" anything in recent years.
Exicted for the fall and winter season with this group. Hoping for a better year than the last several. Looks like a rainy weekend ahead. As long as it isn't a washout, would be very welcome in my neck of the woods.
Well this certainly panned out. Glad I made it up to Banner Elk for the one decent snow back in January. Here's to an active spring. Maybe we'll have better luck tracking heavy rains and strong storms!
Appreciate all the play by plays this winter @GaWx! Shout out to @wncsnowfor keeping it real all winter and getting a lot of hate along the way. Wasn't what any of us wanted, but sometimes that's how it shakes out.
Wind gusts this morning have been pretty impressive. Rain....not so much. I only have 0.24 in the gauge from yesterday/last night. No flakes this morning.
As has been the case time and time again the past 2 winters. We get a small glimmer of hope, only for it to smack us back down. This has been decreasing all weekend.
PD storm aside, I'm just curious how the long-term projections were so off for February? Models are now in the range for the end of Feb and early March....with no cold air in sight. I remember back in late Jan when @wncsnowand I were concerned about the warmth in early Feb and were told "Mid-Feb the pattern will be rocking"...."Just wait until the post-Valentine's period".... "Cold air will return the last 2 weeks of Feb".
I agree with others that the high-elevations will undoubtely get snow again but I think we're quickly coming to the point where most of the southeast will have to be banking on the PD storm or expect to get blanked again.
I’m calling it a wrap for me. Another snowless winter for my backyard. Lucky I went to Banner Elk during the “cold snap”.
What happened to the “Fab Feb” pattern we were all promised? Another case of cool and chilly weather but no cold and no snow
