  1. Maybe it's the same reason people are being triggered because you can go get a haircut.
  2. I drive through here every week going to the po box in Big Bay. Yesterday I pulled over and climbed a hill and sat for a while, just appreciating. The freshest air you can imagine. No social distancing required. As pretty as it was yesterday tho, it's back to cold, grey, and flurries this morning with a high only in the 30's. Wind hasn't let up in days it seems. If there's any moms out there, Happy Mother's day! Even seasonal snow left in the jack pines.
  3. Clouds and flurries most of the night but still made it down to 22. Coldest I could find locally was Kenton and Baraga Plains, both with 16 degrees.
  4. Pro's and cons for both but I think clouds will fill back in and with the wind staying up and being so close to the lake, I'm gonna say over and go with 23 for the low.
  5. It's up to 29 now. I notice clearing trying to move in from the west. If it does clears more than the forecast, it could be a really cold night with fresh snow covering the ground.
  6. Welp... Just about 3" fell, and to think I had the nerve to put my little deck table out last week when it was so nice. Very cold last night with a low of 21 and highs today, and the next three only in the 30's... clouds should keep overnight temps in check tho. April can't get here soon enough!
  7. Took this about 45 minutes ago. Snowing harder now and the ground is white again... 28 degrees. Most hi-res show several inches tonight.
  8. Normal for this area is 58/37. Last week it was 70 two days consecutive. Looking at pics from the same day as last year, I have the same patches of snow left in pretty much the same areas as now.
  9. With the right jacket on and standing in the sun with your back to the wind, it doesn't feel half bad out.
  10. Somewhere in the interior UP will see teens tonight and if there's any lingering snow and clear skies, temps could really bottom out Friday night. Wouldn't surprise me to see Houghton Lake drop into the teens too, they're already pinpointed for 23 two nights in a row.
  11. I felt it was a great winter. Plenty of snow without the numbing cold. My issue begins when winter extends beyond 7 months. Anomaly or not, any snow that falls will not impress me, but it comes with the territory and I like living here. I'll just be grouchy and complain.
  12. Haha... hush! If it hits overnight, nothing would surprise me.
  13. I'm going to see accumulating snow, I already know. MQT: Core of the coldest air will drop across the area on Fri. As an indication of how anomalously cold it will be, the NAEFS and ECMWF ensembles indicate 850mb temps falling to around -12C on Fri which will be outside the 1979-2009 climatology for this time of year, or stated in another way, none of the reanalsyses btwn 1979 and 2009 for this time of year showed 850mb temps as low as currently fcst. As for pcpn, expect little if any until Thu night/Fri when the coldest air arrives. It`s extremely unusual to see LES in May, but if the degree of cold verifys along with the shortwave swinging across the area, there will be some lake enhanced snow or at least a springtime hybrid type LES where land based instability supports further development inland downwind of the lake.
  14. LOL "it might as well snow". It f'n did, ground recovered.
  15. After a warm 70 degrees both Friday and yesterday, it's back to reality today... it's 38 with a gusty north wind and spitting snow. At least I still have my sunburn from yesterday.
  16. Snow managed to hang on even as it hit freaking 70 for a high. Spring is here to stay I believe, tho I'm sure it will snow again... somewhere around 275 inches fell here this winter despite the very mild conditions. As usual one of the very last spots in Michigan to have snow otg. I take a little bit of honor in that Maybe a day or two left before it's gone.
  17. Stop swimming upstream, fall inline.
  18. 36 and rainy this morning. Temp probably wont go anywhere today and neither will the rain. Rain gauge reading .81 so far with another .5 - 1.0" through tonight. Good day to read by the fire. After nearly 6 months otg the snowpack is finally relinquishing its grip and receding, albeit stubbornly.
  19. My post was mostly aimed at media bias when it comes to reporting on Biden vs Trump, not at Biden directly. That said, Biden could try and muster up some enthusiasm. That would be a good start.
  20. ...meanwhile weekend at Biden's playing as scheduled.
  21. Some people are wearing masks, some aren't. With a crowd that size, it will be interesting to see if cases spike down the road a couple weeks. It'll be telling either way.
  22. Beautiful sat pic yesterday illustrating nicely the remaining snow in the high terrain snowbelts along with the still frozen lakes. High yesterday of 50 and should see a repeat today before the lake breeze cools things off after 3ish.
