  1. A quiet Christmas morning with only light snow and flurries remaining... perfect for deep frying a turkey later. This storm had it all. Snow, wind, cold, long duration. MQT in Negaunee recorded a three day total of 26.3" as of 7 am. Their liquid equiv was 1.68, so ratios averaged 16:1. Beautiful blizzard snow. I finished with 28-30" as a best guestimate. Merry Christmas from the yoop!
  2. Nice, Josh. Finally going to venture into the Keweenaw!
  3. Blizzard warning extended from 7 pm this evening until 1 am. Wouldn't be surprised to see another 6 inches. I am buried. Uncle.
  4. Road out to here is totally impassable. Have received 25" or there about with some insane drifts on the roof and driveway. Another 6-8" probably before things taper off. Power is out but geni keeping the freezers running and also the furnace just enough to supplement the wood stove. Kitchen will be serving Mac-n-cheese and spam for Christmas Eve dinner.
  5. Been snowing since last night up here. Nothing particularly heavy but snowed moderately from time to time today. Have picked up 6.5" so far with the temp down to 9 degrees after a late morning high of 25. Wind noticeably on the increase. Another 20 inches still possible over the next 48 hours.
  6. Didn't even realize a storm was in the forecast until I went to town today. The store was so crowded, at first I thought it was just holiday shopping but quickly figured out different. Guess 2+ feet is possible by Saturday ish and with 15" of powder otg already, this should be fun.
  7. Mind blowing is right. I've had 60 inches of snow otg before, but not in ONE day! This is beyond crazy. Thanks for all your content.
  8. Down to 14 last night with scattered snow showers hanging around. Have picked up 14" at my house the past few days. Lakes are beginning to freeze as deep winter takes hold here in the north. Deer Lake north of Negaunee this morning.
  9. Far northern part. As the crow flies, I live about 9 miles south of Big Bay.
  10. Haven’t been out yet, but it looks like 10-11” otg. Last time I looked outside before falling asleep, there was only 5 inches. Evidently it snowed very hard during the night. still snowing mod-to heavy at times with another couple inches today but should taper. Snow Chances in the forecast everyday, through next weekend. Winter is here! Friday night thru this morning:
  11. 42 and very foggy this morning, then a chance of rare November thunderstorms later today. After that reality sets in with the possibly a foot of snow up this way over the weekend... it is time.
  12. A mildish 46 here this afternoon, and a forecast high of 51 tomorrow. After that, looks like the ground will turn white this weekend with seasonal snow probably here to stay. Just in time for opening day.
  13. Woke up with windows open and 60 degrees. Tonight it's 37 with a toasty fire blazin. Winter is knocking on the door.
  14. Incredible. MQT: A record high temperature of 71 degrees was set today at the Marquette National Weather Service office, located in Negaunee Township. This breaks the old record of 66 set back in 1975. Weather records for the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Negaunee Township date back to 1961. #miwx #906wx
  15. Another beautiful day with 66 and sun this afternoon. Another repeat tomorrow before wet and cooler weather moves in, but still above normal. MQT Key Messages: -Thursday last dry day until after weekend -Thunderstorm potential west Fri -Training showers + high moisture = hydro concern potential -Secondary low surges through Sat. leads to gusty winds
  16. Interesting month at MQT to say the least. 4.59" (19.1" snowfall) Avg temp 46.2 (+2.7) Lowest: 26 highest: 75 Nice Autumn so far.
  17. After nearly 10 years up here, the woods, animals, nature, the peace and quiet, all have become a part of my heart and I can't imagine ever leaving... medicine for the soul.
  18. Unbelievable stretch of weather for this time of year. As long as there's snow by the 15th, I'm good with this.
  19. After several beautiful days, back to reality this morning with very light snow showers off the lake. Next several days look nice with sun and 50’s. I’ll take it.
  20. Sitting at 70 with full sun and gusty winds, mid 60’s past two days. snow is 97% gone, hanging on in north facing shady areas.
  21. In 2016 I went to the Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette and saw the author, Karl Bohnak (who at the time was our longtime chief met here in the UP), do a live picture presentation of the book and actually got a signed copy....definitely a good read.
  22. I could definitely see someone with health issues or a bad heart having a serious situation arise shoveling this concrete type snow, but I mostly use equipment and only have to really shovel the deck and I’m letting it melt off this time since it’s so early and nice weather’s to come. And I’ve shoveled 4’ off the roof for almost 8 hours straight so I hope I’m okay for a few more years. pic from down in Negaunee today
