An intense band of lake effect snow off Lake Erie with 2 to 3 inch per hour snowfall rates is drifting gradually north. The heaviest snow at mid evening is focused from the Chautauqua County shoreline to the Boston Hills, Buffalo Southtowns, Wyoming, and far southern Genesee County. This band will continue to drift slowly north through late evening, with quickly deteriorating travel conditions in the City of Buffalo and eastern suburbs. This includes Interstate 90 between exits 52A and 61. Travel conditions are nearly impossible in the hardest hit areas of the Buffalo Southtowns with very deep snow cover on roads and numerous stuck vehicles. Do not attempt to travel in the strongest portion of this band of lake effect snow.
