  1. Leaves are dropping fast. Hopefully it cools off a bit before we lose all our shade.
  2. I'm having someone excavate for a detached garage foundation next week. My fear is it's going to fill with water. Might have to run a trench out to grade to drain it off but that would screw up our driveway.
  3. Why does Albany to Saratoga Springs seem to constantly get interesting weather?
  4. Looks like some towns in MA base certain permit costs on square footage. That takes the guess work (low balling) out of it.
  5. Building permits in MA are based on estimated job cost, same in CT. Usually $10-$20 per thousand depending on the town. There may be a $50 minimum.
  6. A pool deck is something that you’d likely want to have permitted for liability reasons. Same with projects involving wiring or major structural. It’s good to have that inspection sign off for insurance and piece of mind.
  7. There's been a few in Glastonbury too.
  8. Big white pine across someone's driveway about 1/4 mile north of where that one crossed on rt 31

  13. This is good advice from a ServiceMaster website ... "Flooded Basement: Safety First Safety should always be the top priority. Walking on a wet basement floor can be extremely dangerous and even deadly. Before you walk onto a flooded basement floor, check for the following: What’s the risk of electric shock? If you can safely get to the main breaker box, turn off the power before you go to the basement. If the breaker box is in the basement, call the power company or an electrician. Is there a gas smell? Gas leaks are extremely dangerous. If you smell gas, immediately leave the building and call the utility company from a nearby home or business. Evacuate anyone else who may be in the building. Is the water contaminated? Flood water can be contaminated with chemicals and biohazards like raw sewage, which pose serious health risks to people and animals. Stay away from contaminated water, and anything that’s been in contact with it. Make sure kids and animals keep their distance too. Is the flooded basement still structurally sound? If there’s any doubt at all about the integrity of the basement or the house itself, stay out! Have the structure inspected before reentry."
