  1. Well, MY wife always bugs to do the front/back lawns (she's retired, I'm not) because I'm a particular old curmudgeon when it comes to how the lawns look, so while the back lawn didn't need it, there was enough fringe stuff that needed mowed on the front lawn that I acquiesced last Friday. I don't think she'll ask to do either lawns again, anytime soon...but in fairness, I warned her at the time that it was HOT AF out there.
  2. Sorry. Couldn't resist. And just to stay on topic, currently 79/72 with things drying off here. Southern VA's radar looks hoppin' though...maybe some of that survives to come up this way.
  3. Arggghh. I hate not being able to measure rain right now. I don't think we got quite as much as you...but we DID get a nice 45 min light but steady rain around 7-8 a.m. We could certainly use several more hours of that today...and radar looks hopeful, with stuff moving up from the south.
  4. I'm sorry for those who got whiffed on last night's activity...we've whiffed the last few rounds of storms here as well, except for last night. I have no way to measure precip right now, but we got a solid 45 min last evening of either steady light rain or wind-driven/sideways deluge. Anecdotally...things are generally "less brown" today (e.g., grass, garden plantings) and it's WAY more comfortable outside...but it is still somewhat brown.
  5. No...and I typically use yourself, @GATECH and @H2O as bellwethers for this sort of thing. I have noticed in the past hour since my wife and I sat down to dinner....we had at least 3-4 little power spikes (mini-brownouts?) in that timeframe. I sure hope that doesn't turn into something more permanent. Actually, just now, we just started with a driving downpour as opposed to the piddling showers we had 10 minutes ago. We will TAKE IT!
  6. Definitely looked like it on radar back in that timeframe. So we currently have that post-thunderstorm, semi-sunset-incoming look here right now, after a 10 minute shower, but the lightning is actually picking up and getting nastier. Weird.
  7. Send some this way, brother...please. Yeah. Seriously. Losing power right now would be an UGLY situation. We lost power after the 2012 derecho for 3-4 days...and I never thought I could sweat THAT MUCH in my life, ever. Pretty sure this current situation would exceed that...IF we lost power.
  8. The breeze has been great today, but dude...so sorry. Our HVAC has been going full-tilt boogie since, oh hell...10 a.m. this morning?? I can't remember when our chiller has stayed on for HOURS at a time...I'm getting a little worried. If we start having brownouts or full blackouts in this region due to power usage...we all gonna be suffering worse than when we lived through 2012 Derecho times.
  9. Region between Charlottesville and Louisa appears to be getting pretty fairly spanked right now on radar...in terms of lightning. Any confirmations on conditions down that way? In somewhat related news, at least based on current radar....Short Pump looks like it might only get grazed by severe activity to the north.
  10. LOL. So, you don't mind if I start stalking you now, since you were so precise...right? So, getting darker now, thinking we're gonna get something. That brighter storm cloud on the right moving very quickly east from the west, courtesy of Aldie. The greyish ones on the left, seem to be moving...north?? Kinda weird. But okay.
  11. Aaaaaaand....there's the watch. Those (very hot) breezes and gusts are definitely verifying IMBY today.
  12. We've had a tremendous uptick in sooty black mold on our holly bushes in front of the house, along with scale. I've treated them twice with horticultural oil in past month, and that's seemed to reduce, if not eliminate, the scale...but I need to kinda powerwash the holly leaves to get the remaining sooty mold off.
  13. Yeah, well...under normal circumstances, if you were here in the DMV, I'd be looking for your recommendations as to what the remnants were in your IPA beer can. Again, safe travels in the coming weeks...and enjoy!
  14. Stunning. TY for sharing this, and good luck to y'all in your future moves/plans!
  15. Safe travels, @CAPE! Ironically, I just started watching "The Commitments," one of my favorite movies from the '90s, which takes place in Dublin, and features some of THE BEST soul/R&B covers from the 60s in any film, ever.
  16. The parked REACHED CAPACITY before midday? Are you kidding me? I mean, I expect that at Great Falls (which I refuse to ever visit again, on a weekday OR a weekEND day)...but Cunningham Falls??? Dear Lord. The DMV is just getting too damn crowded....
  17. Indeed! Looked up Beech Mountain, and it looks like you're in gorgeous country...no matter what the season. Enjoy, and safe travels!
  18. WOWZERS! So gorgeous, good for y'all! 100/72 down here in the midst of the UHI (i.e., MBY)!!
  19. Yeah, 104 IMBY. But...humidity seems a bit lower, so, with a fan on the patio...bearable.
  20. 64/50, light breeze. Don't get many summer mornings this perfect.
  21. This thing is visibly building slightly back northward overhead...and getting increasingly loud and boomy.
  22. Mrs. & I spent entire afternoon on the back patio, too. And yeah, super muggy and hot, but...not bad with a fan! I took a short 15 min nap starting around 5:15 when it was still sunny...and was jolted awake by my wife a half hour ago, who was trying to cover the patio furniture in a sudden shower. And now, post-shower, 88/74, and like @GATECH says, definite steam bath. But hey...we got to eke out a relaxing afternoon outside. And, we got up to 103 for our high.
  23. Now 100/73. We're sitting on the back patio. With a fan.
  24. Acadia National Park is near the top of my bucket list. Don't know why we can't manage to get up there any given year...such a beautiful spot.
  25. And....there it is. 99/72 IMBY. Can't imagine something won't happen later...
