  1. Temp dropped from 46 to 39 between 4:30-5 p.m. when the front came through here...along, of course, with winds picking up. Also, I could swear I saw mammatus clouds at the edge of the front as it approached the Potomac. Is it possible to have mammatus clouds in this kind of frontal setup? I've only noticed them associated with severe wx in our area.
  2. 43/39 and despite this afternoon's sun-filled forecast, thick overcast has prevailed all day.
  3. LOL. I learned not to kvetch about what I can't control by watching behavior in the main event threads over the years, especially in the wintertime. Snapping at family members or the dog because it rained instead of snowed is a strong indication that it's time to push back from the keyboard.
  4. Aside from event obs, I'm the village idiot when it comes to analysis, and so try to just lurk/learn in main threads. Many years on, though, I'm still surprised that some folks drop into storm/event threads to banter and panic....when there are always two dedicated, separate threads set up for both of those at any given time.
  5. Indeed it is -- and man, so is the Baltimore area. Meant to ask -- how was the milk stout nitro? Couldn't quite make out the brewery name. I've got my wife hooked on those milk stouts now...
  6. Rusty Rail = great brews. My older brother and I meet to go camping in PA every October (it's a good halfway point between him in NY state and me in VA), and we usually end up in either French Creek State Park NW of Philly, or at R.B. Winter State Park just north of Mifflinburg, where the Rusty Rail mothership is located. We often hit up the Rusty Rail to "warm up," have some great beer and good eats there. A really unique brewery and restaurant in a renovated warehouse, if you ever have the chance to visit Mifflinburg. Needless to say, we have, on more than one occasion, had to be extra careful with our navigation back to R.B. Winter.
  7. That looks/sounds amazing. Haven't seen it yet at our Weggy's here in NoVA, but might have to make a special trip to Bawlmer to give that a try.
  8. I think "pineapple upside down cake" sounds like an intriguing combination, would totally take a chance on that. I've never been a big "fruity beer" dude (e.g., I despise Blue Moon, and even moreso with an ORANGE SLICE floating in it), however....there's a ton of microbreweries out there taking big chances on (and often succeeding with) the inclusion of subtle fruit, or combination fruit, notes in their beers. Great time to be alive, from a beer point of view.
  9. Highly recommended. I'm not getting any "grapefruit" notes out of this...but can confirm an arrival at HammerTown, and the potential of blowing right past it, if I elect to have another one of these immediately following this initial one.
  10. I like to visit Five Guys just to crack open peanuts and throw the shells wherever the hell I want on the floor. I'm not allowed to do that at home for some reason.
  11. Just glanced at LWX winter wx page, after an initial check this A.M. -- did they slightly trim back the WWAs for tonight in MoCo/HoCo, or am I imagining that? I thought they came right down to the District boundaries earlier.
  12. @Thanatos_I_Am -- go back a number of pages in banter to earlier this week, @Mrs.J posted some in-progress pics of her project. It's an awesome repurposing and refinishing of a game table...and as I mentioned earlier, the drawer pulls on it are particularly cool from a thematic standpoint.
  13. I remember reading in past years of your Jebwalk reports in Dale City, often at night, on the rare occasion(s) that we'd get similar icy conditions in these parts. Glad you're getting to enjoy some of that down in TX.
  14. 29 and holding. -FZRA done for now. Turned on the Valentines-themed spotlights on the ice-encased dogwood in the front yard for tonight.
  15. Okay, I do see one left in Woodbridge, VA. But wow...didn't realize the franchise had died out to the extent that it did.
  16. I actually witnessed two birds land on, and slip off of, tree branches over the last couple of hours. Never saw that before.
  17. I know, but...that pic has me totally jonesing for a Fuddrucker's burger. (Do they even exist anymore?)
  18. Hadn't heard of that brewery coming....but that name is a marketing coup, especially for that area. Up to 31 here now, still a steady FZRA that doesn't want to accrete much except on exposed metal...
  19. 30.7, FZRA. Roads/sidewalks are fine, probably because it's a steady rain right now. Not much accretion yet on taller trees, some on shrubs, and definitely on exposed metal.
  20. Sounds like you live in a beautiful spot. I still enjoy the big snows (at this point, any snow) on the rare occasion it appears in southern FfxCo...just hate cleaning it up now. We're probably heading for one of the Carolinas or Florida in a couple years for a pre-retirement move. The beach will eventually win out.
  21. Nice little place. If you bite, you might want to consider putting in a small trap door at the roof peak for egress, in case they get one of their 120"+ single-event snowfalls.
