Oddly enough (for our corner of SE FfxCo), it's not really let up here since daybreak, vacillating between light to mod snow, and only had pingers in the 7-8am hour. Rates are picking back up again here.
-
27/21, -SN, sitting at 6.8" so far.
-
Set up Mon AM reports to run, stare out office window at +SN, download finished reports....rinse & repeat (for past hour).
-
5.5", 27/21. Was about a 75%/25% pinger-to-pixie dust mix when I went out to clean off the wx station at the top of the hour, but turning back to all SN as rates pick up again.

First flurries...31/21.

January Medium/Long Range: A snowy January ahead?

Ahhhhh...Short Pump. Or, to use it more properly...."Man, we were TOTALLY 'Short Pump'ed' in this latest storm!" -

Sidebar...is it okay if I'm stanning because you're posting from a P9 Pro XL?? I am still on P8 Pro but still loving it one plus year on... -
DP on my wx station was single digits most of day but now on rise. You also mentioned that you relocated your station...so let's see what happens. My DP is on rise after single digits most of day...which my sinuses will attest to.

LOL. I took down the multicolor holiday lights in the front shrubs that are likely to get snow and ice caked in the next 24 hours...but left the spotlights on the front of the house, but turned them to "January" colors. Also, currently...30/10...that DP rising a tad from where it sat most of the day.

FfxCo Public Schools called a closing within the past hour. It's the right thing to do in this storm, but honestly, they would've closed for the threat of a dusting...as they have for most of the past 15 years.

I'm at 35/6, and been hovering in that territory most of today. Maybe it has something to do with @H2O being slightly more elevated in Rose Hill? Unsure...
-
Currently 35/6, with high level cirrus streaming in from the SW.

WOW. Y'all live in heaven...at least part of the year in McHenry. Drive safely getting back to the DMV, and hope you snag some more good pics at "home" this next day or two. Been a minute since I've hung out here on the MA forum and need to go look for a pic-specific topic...cuz I will be taking a ton over the next 48 hours and don't want to pollute the banter or other threads with 'em.

#PREACH. My wife and I are each within the last year or so of our 50s. I loved tracking and seeing the white stuff (snow, not blow) pile up a decade or more ago, but GAHHH, I despise cleaning it up now. The only saving grace is that our late 20s-aged youngest son is "trapped" here with us until next Friday, after canceling his early Monday AM flight back to the Midwest in anticipation of the storm. And hell yeah, I will be absolutely be putting him to work on shoveling all of this on Monday...

Damn...that is an eating option that I should not be exercising regularly, but which (nonetheless) I wish I had more ready access to...especially the "Hot Weiner Special."

Yeah, wind chills are brutal even at midday...at least for us close-in south-of-beltway 'burb folks. I'm about a degree warmer but similar wind chills IMBY. Ugh. On the upside...there's white on the ground, on the roofs, and still in many of the trees.

I love to watch the old Carol Burnett show JUST to watch Korman/Conway in action. They didn't need a blooper reel for that show...every episode was a blooper reel, especially with Korman trying to keep his composure.

First time I've seen one of these issued by LWX...two never-before-seen advisories for me in past 24 hours, including yesterday afternoon's snow squall warning. Wish I'd gotten a screencap of that one, too. Good times.
-
Oh...YEAH. I'd be tempted to say that this afternoon's snow squall warning and thundersnow and (probably!) .5" of snow STILL sticking all around my south-of-the-DMV-burbs property rivaled the 2012 derecho. But it's a close call, and discussion...
-
Oh yeah. Added a couple of those sunset photos to the album link I shared earlier. YASSS! The 2012 derecho was a once in a lifetime event...and so was this afternoon. Pretty sure we're gonna keep this foundation of .75" of snow until whatever falls on Sun/Mon next week. Beautiful pic!

My wife and son were at the South Alexandria Wegmans store, I sent them the "snow squall warning" and they were both mocking me. Until they were attempting to drive the several miles home in snow covered roads and severely reduced visibility.... Oh, GOD, yes. I'm astounded that the ground is completely whitened...which I think @H2O mentioned just a few minutes ago. I absolutely did NOT expect this kind of squall this afternoon...although I think @pazzo83 mentioned within the past 24 hours that we really didn't need to relive a "commute-ageddon" type event, even on a lightly attended work day, and he was right. My wife and son said road conditions rapidly turned horrible during this squall.
-
Yes! Except, I never wish for you, the severe t-storms that turn into tornadoes, once they cross the Potomac in warmer weather...but I certainly hope you get a taste of these crazy squalls. And if you do, please post pics!
-
And it's still ripping...dear Lord! Might try to get more pics!

Haven't experienced thundersnow in over a decade. Have NEVER experienced a "snow squall warning" living in NoVA in 30+ years. What an awesome friggin' event this afternoon!! Had 3 or 4 flashes of lightning AND big thunder! Now I can die a happy wx nerd. Here's my unfiltered album link with pics/video, from literally the last 15 minutes of this event...unbelieveable! https://photos.app.goo.gl/FGi4LL6YxgTQFLDf6
