  1. That was our first real squall and it was awesome. Wish I could post a video...I'm probably around 1.5" now. Very light but nearly constant snow since around 8 am. Plows are out - come on up!
  2. It’s funny you mention that because in the middle of the night I hear what sounded like a GE Turbofan jet engine power up and was like what in the ever-loving F is that: .
  3. Haha I'm always looking for a chase buddy. Made it to Snowshoe...let's see how this ends up. Definitely at the top of the mountain so putting my best foot forward on this one.
  4. Going to 'shoe might be a bit of overkill, but I've always wanted to go there and am a little worried about temps. Might be worrying over nothing but last two years living here taught me otherwise when it is a marginal setup. I had a blast last winter when I chased that big Sierra storm so this will produce some of the same conditions - but on a serious diet by comparison.
  5. Thanks for this - I looked before booking and this condo is at 4,638 feet with (supposedly) a decent view. I'm hoping the only view I see is a blur of swirling snow pasting the window
  6. I noticed that too but in the AFD, LWX mentions a secondary surge of cold air at the same time P&C brings temps up warm enough to rain, coinciding with what you mention w/the models...primary reason why I'm going to Snowshoe with the hope it doesn't hit freezing and turn to rain.
  7. Thank you! It's honestly not the best time to do this (have a dentist appt tomorrow morning, but teeth are replaceable and this storm will only happen once). @DDweatherman I go through Airbnb which has never disappointed me (I do this nonsense a lot). I'd rather have gone to somewhere around Canaan since it's much closer to home, but they wanted anywhere from $750-$1,100 for a 3 night stay which is ridiculous. Even with their bs fees, I'm only paying $370 for a top-of-mountain condo at Snowshoe which is much more reasonable.
  8. Pulled the trigger and got a place up at Snowshoe for tonight through Saturday. Hopefully lives up to its name
  9. I think the more elevation for this one, the better you'll do. I live in the area and have found that a community called Old Timberline in the Canaan Valley (close to Davis, WV) is the best when it comes to events like these. But, you wouldn't go wrong in Snowshoe either. I found one house available in Old Timberline on Airbnb although they are a bit pricey (everything in Davis is pricey though). At least the sun is useless this time of year so the marginal temps won't immediately turn any accumulation into a slushee (if we can get past the warm ground).
  10. 15z GFS seems to be on board with a more robust evolution. Looking good and ~72 hours away. Turn in that PTO form.
  11. Winter Storm Watch up for my hood. 6-12" with higher amounts on the ridgetops. This would be a great start to the season.
  12. Do you have a 4wd? That helps obviously. If you do get stuck, it'll only add to the adventure. C'mon out here and have some fun.
  13. I'm still debating...waiting to see if it'll be worth it since I'll probably get some imby. Saw a house in Old Timberline that may work out if I don't go to Snowshoe. Send me a PM and maybe we can run into each other.
  14. You won't get stuck. We have the equipment here...I've been here for two winters and have never been unable to go where I wanted.
  15. 27.7 with freezing fog less than a quarter (1/8th?) of a mile vis IMBY. Nasty morning for driving.
  16. I also do the lakes - nothing is as intense as LES. I did a chase in the Sierra last winter which was epic but paled to being under an Erie/Ontario band. You’ll know I’m @Snowshoe because my truck with (albeit not perfectly laid out, but still cool imo) plates will be in the lot with a guy shoveling for fun.
  17. I think you’re going to need a little more elevation than Deep Creek. I live just south of the lake and plan on heading to Snowshoe. Since it’s off season, it’s cheap - and 4,800 feet. Since you’re making the effort, thought I’d suggest a plan B for ya.
  18. Yep, thinking my first chase of the year will be at Snowshoe
  19. Take a peek at the AFD. Good stuff and it's within a week. Let's see what the HH run shows.
  20. 36 with 0.28" in the bucket so far with a stiff breeze. Now this feels like November.
  21. My mother in law - who is 73 years old - is visiting from Ecuador and has never seen falling snow (hell, she might as well be from DC). Anyways it would be a real treat if we got some snow before she leaves on the 26th. Thanks for sharing.
  22. BWI: 2.3" DCA: 0.6" IAD: 1.9" RIC: T Tiebreaker LYH: 1.1"
  23. Front is through - 56.3 breezy degrees after a midnight temp of 68(!). Enough rain to wet the ground but the station imby didn't register any precip. Beautiful fall weekend coming up.
