  1. It's a hot one! I really need to get a lucky thunderstorm this afternoon. I am sitting at just 1.5" for the whole month.
  2. Looks like I got about 0.2 overnight. Only 1.35 for May with no more than 0.3 at a time. Dry! I watered this morning not expecting any more than a passing light shower.
  3. Dang, I was really hoping for a nice shot of rain this week. Yard is getting hard as a rock. Get them sprinklers going! I'm actually looking forward to the sunny, cool weather Sun-Mon. It will soon be hot to stay.
  4. I have a couple more trays of flowers and one shrub to plant, and today's weather will be perfect for it. Maybe some thunderstorms late in the week? Friday looks juicy.
  5. Got another 0.2 overnight for an event total of 0.45.
  6. 0.25 for me, and 1.15 for the month. Last rain before today was 0.3 on the 8th. Really looking forward to some summery weather next week, but I chuckled when I read this part from this afternoon's disco. Those cut-offs probably won't bother though. Probably. High pressure looks to remain over the Mid-Atlantic throughout much of next week. At this time, mostly dry conditions and seasonable temperatures look to persist through Friday. However, there is some uncertainty in regards to possible impacts from two separate cut off lows.
  7. Mid 60s here now with a little sun. Just glad the darn high winds stopped. I am at 0.9" for May so far. Staunton, VA is at 51 while it's sunny and 80 all the way up in VT by the Canadian border. LOL.
  8. I wish for once we'd get a cold, snowy winter followed by a very warm April (say +8.0), a normal May and a -2.0 June. 70s for months.
  9. Starting out cloudy and 50, but hoping for some sun and less wind today. Gonna be chilly though. How would you like this forecast? Concord, NH LOL. Today Sunny, with a high near 73. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph in the afternoon. Thursday Sunny, with a high near 78. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Friday Sunny, with a high near 84. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.
  10. Ahhhhh, our climate. May looks great on paper with avg highs rising through the 70s, then there's reality. Through the 18th, Dulles has had only FIVE (!) days in the 70s; all the rest 50s, 60s and 80s.
  11. Actually got a couple peeks of sun here, 66 degrees. Here's a blurb from Charlotte's disco on the big rains down there -- uses the words "not good" short term guidance develops an intense E/SE flow within the CAD regime Tue night...and holds onto it for about 36 hours...not good. Strong upslope flow will likely result in storm total rainfall of 7-10", with locally higher amounts along the eastern Blue Ridge escarpment, including the headwaters of the Catawba River basin.
  12. Can you imagine a -9.3 departure for the first 12 days of February! Sunny and 64. Going to savor the next few days.
  13. 38 with a teeny bit of frost. Gonna be beautiful today. My tender annuals can finally go in the ground. Crazy that Sunday gets back doored from 80s to now possibly 60s and showery.
  14. Looking forward to it. Haven't seen my parents in Calvert since February, so we're going to visit outside spaced apart in their huge yard. A chilly 54 here at 1 PM. So glad today is the last day of winter finally.
  15. I thought we were really going to tank when Gaithersburg airport was already down to 31 just before midnight, but it held pretty much steady after that. That is a low spot and reports colder than most surrounding areas. I got down to 32. Looking forward to a nice afternoon! Grilling steaks for the wife.
  16. Just saw a brief flurry in Germantown; temp 43. As someone else pointed out, the sun angle and strength is equivalent to August 2! Unreal.
  17. Got down to 32 and leftover water on deck and table froze. I was happy to see my hummingbirds still at the feeders. This is the coldest temp I've ever seen them at. The small disturbance coming through later should bring clouds that will help today break the record low-max.
  18. Light rain and 55. The 6-10 day and 8-14 day outlooks are looking good! 70s and some low 80s FINALLY. So, while we are freezing tomorrow, here is the weekend forecast for Fairbanks, AK: Saturday Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Southeast wind around 5 mph. Saturday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 46. East wind around 5 mph becoming north in the evening. Sunday Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. East wind 5 to 10 mph.
  19. Found it -- George BM posted: Now still before that, in the pre-record era, accumulating snow fell from Northern Virginia through the NE corridor on May 4, 1774 with 4 inches falling in Northern VA and even more falling in places northeast. This was recorded in diaries.
  20. Someone yesterday cited a May storm in the 1770s (based on journals) that dropped 4 inches in northern VA with higher amounts north and east.
  21. Not May, but back in April of 1985 (in Calvert County) I saw snow squalls with grass whitening one day, and temps in the low 90s five days later.
  22. We all knew this was going to happen when we were blowing through Dec-Feb with well above normal temps. Just for fun, take your seven-day forecast and subtract 30 degrees to see what this pattern would have done in mid-winter.
  23. They've confirmed those darn Asian Giant Hornets (aka "murder hornets") out in Washington. One bee keeper out there found thousands of her honey bees decapitated. I killed a European hornet the other day. Mean looking thing!
  24. Partly sunny and 77 in Germantown. What a nice surprise!
  25. I am right with you! Got some gorgeous new guinea impatiens for the deck pots, and will have some afternoon beers and BBQ some chicken later. Up to 66 with sun. Got the same ones as last year that look like this by late summer:
