From our house it's mostly a distant drone of pharaohs from woods a few hundred yards away, and a few individuals closer here and there. But driving yesterday just a couple miles away the noise was suddenly astonishing at a red light, even with the windows up. I put them down and could not believe the noise. It was cassinis and they were all over a stand of big cherry trees. The hissing buzz-saw sound was unreal. I can't imagine the people that live right near that spot. Then at the next light very little noise.

We know a couple of people up your way that said the same thing -- no cicadas. Same with some of my family in Calvert. Looking at this map you are close to the border of Brood X and Brood II in red -- 2013 and 2030. Looks like Calvert is Brood II

Oh man had one of those yesterday at the Dogfishead Alehouse in Gaithersburg, with a juicy bacon cheddar burger. Mmmmmm! Got right about 1.0 yesterday and last night which was way more than the 0.6 I expected. Just drizzle today and an incredibly cold 50 degrees.

Really need the rain after getting mostly missed yesterday with just 0.1. Point/click for Friday and Friday night has total of 1.25 to 1.75, so using the Central MD rainfall formula (50% of the low end amount) yields about 0.6 which would be decent. (That formula works for snow too). I don't like seeing the thunderstorm language creeping in though -- we need stratiform rain to do well here. T-storms will just dodge.

Only 0.1 total as we do not do thunderstorms in Germantown but we have the stratiform rain coming Friday which we do well with.

We're visiting family a couple miles north of Huntingtown on Monday. Should I bring a box of 'em?

Got just under 0.5 in Germantown which was great. Hoping for 1.0 with the late week system and sun the rest of the weekend.
