  1. I wonder if we will get an old fashioned heat wave, 5+ days of 90+ temps, coming up this weekend in to next week.
  2. The heat index predicted for Sun - Tues are very dangerous. Take care of yourselves those days everyone.
  3. Not directly related to what is discussed here, but still important, given the weather predictions coming up. If not appropriate to post here, I apologize in advance.
  4. Those temperature swings are insane. I am surprised no cattle or humans were killed or seriously injured by a heat burst that raised the temp 40 degrees in 5 minutes. I cannot think of any way that a heat burst like that could be predicted.
  5. Any chances of a pattern change coming up, so we can get a nice weekend for a change? I am craving sitting by the community pool, getting my vitamin D from the sun.
  6. The rain appears to have missed the Bronx entirely, as the Yankee v Boston game continued with no signs of rain. I am hoping we break out of this pattern of rain on the weekends, especially during daylight hours, so I can take advantage of the pool in my community development. Plus warm sunny days will help heat up the pool, as it is not heated.
  7. Am I reading this map correctly, temps in the Gulf Stream are below normal pretty much all the way from the coast of the Carolinas to more than midway to the UK?
  8. I would rather find a way to capture that water vapor so it can be converted to clean drinking water.
  9. Wow. I hope they get it under control quickly.
  10. Is a Neutral ENSO expected for this summer? I know that a La Nina MIGHT lessen shear in the Atlantic and might mean more hurricanes/TS in that basin.
  11. Due to the angle it came inland, how it transitioned basically as it was about to land, from tropical, to a non tropical, but extremely powerful storm. Then how long it stuck around. We may not see that combination again in a long time. We might see something similar, but all those combinations together? That is for smarter people than me to really evaluate.
  12. Very foggy this AM in Riverdale with temps in the 40's. Once that fog lifted, temps shot up, and are now in the low 70s. Maybe we squeeze out a few more degrees, before early evening t-storms?
  13. Spring has sprung. Weather pattern seems to be in full spring mode now. Interior sections of the tri-state area might see some really warm conditions on Saturday. Everyone ready for spring weather?
  14. I wouldn't hold my breath on this if I were you.
  15. We probably will be able to create a Dyson sphere at some point as well. I don't think we will match the Star Trek universe of 2063 of Earth being able to create a warp field. That is just 38 years away. It would be a cool thing to see. I would be an old man, but it is definitely within reach for me to live that long.
  16. The great blackout of August 2003? Overloaded lines sagged in to trees, which caused the initial outage. Then alarms failed to go off in control rooms to reduce voltage, then everything cascaded from there. FirstEnergy took a big chunk of the blame for the alarm failures, failure to reduce load, etc.
  17. 250 million years in the future, if humans are still around, they probably would have found ways to control the weather, keep CO2 levels balanced to avoid global warming, or ice ages. Will have gone off in to space to explore other solar systems, possibly even other galaxies via their equivalent of warp drive.
  18. I have seen those in Brooklyn. You can see their nests built on the telephone/cable poles. I wonder how many outages they are responsible for due to their nest building.
  19. Yeah I have no clue where they are getting that sus for the first syllable.
  20. I think all of those are up in Oswego county. No wonder their numbers are so high.
  21. I totally forgot about them.
