they under measured the January 2000 storm...the 5.5" should have been 6" or more...even today they reported no snow depth after the other day...they reported 0.7" with no snow on the ground the next morning...I had a 0.1 or 0.2" and still can see a little snow on my lawn...they screw up snow depth also...

1961-1963-1966 have not been duplicated since...

it almost snowed on every holiday starting with the Thanksgiving weekend...there were snowflakes in the air on Christmas and Easter...

1956, 1958, 1959 and 1960 had its biggest snowfall and most monthly snow in March...

in the late 1950's to 1970 March was a winter month and so was December...

big difference from the Decembers from the 1960's to the 1970's...

growing up in the 1960's spoiled me...Decembers were very cold and there was snow for Christmas...1960 had four days in single digits...1968-69 had it's coldest temp in early Dec...1963-64 had its coldest week of the season the third week of Dec...they also had a few torch days and mild Christmas in 1964 and 1965...It snowed 3" on 12/20/64 but was gone by Christmas eve...It was 69 degrees Christmas day 1964...that was a shock to the system...today its becoming normal...

34 now 33 was the low...no ice at all here...

I would proclaim winter is from 12/15 to 3/15 if I was in charge...

over the last 100 years there have been around 15 snowfalls an inch or more between Dec 21st to the 25th that gave us a white Christmas...1998 was the last time we got snow just before Christmas...1998 did not have a temperature below freezing until a few days before the storm...

it looks good on paper...doesn't mean it will happen...the 1959 storm had a positive ao and nao with a neg pna...go figure...

the last time a major snowstorm came on Dec. 21-22 was back in 1959...59 had a white Christmas for the first time in 11 years...

in 1960 on this date snow was tapering off and temperatures were in the teens going down to the single digits...15-21" of powder with huge drifts...

the ao forecast has members diving really low the week before Christmas...that would be great timing if it happens...White Christmas odds just went up...

today was the 15th day with a minimum 32 or lower in NYC...8 so far in December...not bad for this pattern so far...
