  1. all the airports reported a trace of snow yesterday...A man walking his dog in Central Park saw snow and sleet falling...a trace of snow on 4/23 is a significant event but it went unobserved...
  2. never happened before...1874 and 1876 missed by one degree of tying...
  3. it was the first year since the 1920's to have April average in the 40's...May in the 50's and June in the 60's...has not come close since...
  4. when I first started observing weather in 1962 May 62 had three days with a max in the 40's...then on the 19th there was a heat wave...back in 1987 there was a day in the 40's and my house was cold...the heat was shut off weeks before...I think last year had a day with a max in the 40's...
  5. its been a long time since NYC had temperatures in the 30's in May...1978 was the last year that happened...1976-77-78 all had temps in the 30's in May...
  6. no snow reported on the daily almanac for NYC...its only a trace but it should have been observed...
  7. saw the greatfull dead at the fillmore east on 2/14/1970...drove there in a snowstorm...no one on the road and I parked on the street two blocks away...try doing that now...
  8. I wonder if they will record a trace of snow for the park today?...in May 1945 NYC recorded a trace of snow with a max/min of 51/45...
  9. I don't remember 1961 but I do remember 1967...that year NYC just missed snow on 5/25...I saw wet snow mixed with rain earlier in May 67...May 67 is the second coldest of all time...
  10. latest snowflakes seen for NYC in recent years... 4/23.....trace in 1963 and 1986...1986 accumulated a little in colder spots...1963 had IP's... 4/24.....trace in 1967...snow and rain mixed... 4/27.....trace in 1967...rain and snow mixed... 5/9...….trace in 1977...snow mixes in with rain... 5/27.....trace in 1961...IP's reported at LGA...could have been hail with temps in the low to mid 40's... near misses in May..... 1963 1966 1967 2002
  11. getting a little snow and sleet at the moment...we are paying for the warm winter we had...1919 comes to mind...a nothing winter but a cold ending to April...
  12. I had a little hail from both lines that came thru today...the first line had light rains and some hail...the second line had an all out thunder storm but winds were not a factor...

  14. yeah so far...not sure but I think the latest 80 degree day came in June 1924...
  15. no year had a March that was warmer than April...1946 came the closest when March averaged 49.8 and April 50.4...
  16. the blocking from the ao/nao isn't forecast to be that strong or lengthy...still we will be looking at the coldest temp for April 2020 this week...
  17. people complaining about no Spring must have been asleep in February and March...to have a Spring you need a winter first...
  18. this winter was as bad as 1997-98 and the el nino was not nearly as strong as 98...1972-73 was a lot colder than this year and 1997-98...I put it in third place but its close to a three way tie...2001-02 a close fourth...2011-12 was fifth...2001-02 and 2011-12 had a snowfall of at least 3" that stuck around for a few days...

  22. snowfall should be a 30 year seasonal average...if you round up the average numbers per month the average is 30.0...the actual average is 29.9 from the 1990-91 winter to the 2019-20 winter...   23. the best snowfall imby was in early December...3.5" accumulated mostly on the grass and cars...I did not stick to the sidewalk much so I didn't shovel...I didn't shovel all winter...
