  1. 1963 and 1976 continued the record cold outbreaks during the summer months...the last time NYC saw 50's in July and August was in 2007...2000 ...1992...1990...the 1980's did it twice...the 1970's seven times...the 1960's three times...1963 was hot and cold until August when it was just cold...
  2. since its going to be lousy by May standards I'd like to see some record cold or snow...record lows are near 35 and a wet flake would tie a record...out here in Staten Island its 10 degrees colder on a windless night than Central Park...pretty close to the same if its windy...I might see temps close to freezing imby before it gets to normal again...
  3. I hope someone is awake in Central park if wet snow flakes mix in overnight...it would go unreported...they already missed the little snow that fell in late April...
  4. sometimes when you get the mother load from Canada and the high settles in south of us the return flow brings record warmth...this happened in May 1970 and April 1976 & 77...
  5. during the 1960's there was a little snow just to the north of NYC in 1966 and 1967...I saw some wet flakes mixed in with heavy rain and temps in the upper 30's on 5/6/1967 ...Washington DC had a few flurries during the early morning on May 1st...NYC just missed as precip stopped and temps dropped into the 30's...On May 9th, 1966 precip stopped as temps fell into the mid 30's...on 5/27/1961 NYC had a max/min of 47/41 with rain...both record lows...Some places saw IP's like LGA...On May 25th 1967 NYC had a max/ min of 46/42 with light rain...record low max and near record low min...there was snow way north of the city...
  6. that's what a top five highest minimum May 4th day will do for you...
  7. 1966 is a year with a below average April and May...May 66 had a min of 36 on the 10th with snow just to the north and west of NY...1966 had a very hot and dry summer...
  8. yeah after the 11th its mostly 40's... 5/9 35 in 1947 36 in 1977 38 in 1923 5/10 36 in 1966 36 in 1947 38 in 1923+ 5/11 36 in 1913 37 in 1923 41 in 1945+ 5/12 40 in 1907 40 in 1874 41 in 1938 5/13 39 in 1895 41 in 1928 41 in 1878 5/14 40 in 1878 41 in 1871 42 in 2013+ 5/15 42 in 1947 42 in 1920 43 in 1880 5/16 42 in 1878 43 in 2016 43 in 1983+ 5/17 39 in 1956 40 in 1888 41 in 1983 5/18 41 in 1973 42 in 1976 42 in 1882 5/19 38 in 1976 41 in 2002 42 in 1882 5/20 43 in 2002 43 in 1907 45 in 1994+ 5/21 40 in 1907 42 in 2002 45 in 1949+ 5/22 42 in 1907 44 in 1990 45 in 1895+ 5/23 43 in 1963 44 in 1976 44 in 1935 5/24 39 in 1963 43 in 1877 44 in 1956+ 5/25 41 in 1925 42 in 1967 42 in 1956 5/26 42 in 1967 43 in 1925 45 in 1930+ 5/27 41 in 1961 43 in 1915 45 in 1930 5/28 43 in 1961 43 in 1907 44 in 1927 5/29 43 in 1902 43 in 1884 44 in 1936 5/30 42 in 1884 45 in 1949 46 in 1961 5/31 46 in 1938 46 in 1930 46 in 192
  9. 1976 comes after a early heat wave in mid April...1976 is the latest 38 or low for so late in the season...1977 came after the earliest 90 degree day in April...about a week or two later it was back in the 90's...1978 came on the first...it too saw 90's later in the month...1970 had a 90 degree day a few days later...
  10. I had wires everywhere too...I tried to make this layout as simple as possible...I did not pre wire anything on the board...I'll eventually have a few street lights hooked up...It is a light rail light freight line in a city/town...I priced a light rail train and it goes for 140...Trollies go from anywhere from 35-100...
  11. I think I can at least double my money and start a bigger better new one...but I still have months of tedious work to go...I did not have room for HO scale...I had a 5/13 layout with fifteen switches and five trains could run at one time...I never completed it fully...I tore it down and rebuilt it twice because I wasn't satisfied...
  12. I was recommended KATO from Japan which turned out quite well...years ago you would have to splice wires...now you just plug it in...
  13. its a lot easier than what it was 35 years ago...a lot more expensive too...
  14. under construction...I'm keeping myself busy building this n scale train layout...I still have many hours a head of me painting and detailing...so far I got around $750.00 into it...it will cost around $1200 when its done...you can say this is my stimulus...all I need now is for the hobby stores to open...
  15. the last time April and May had below average temperatures was in 2003...some other years... year...total 90 degree days... 2003.....8 1992.....9 1967.....9 1961...29 1956...11 1950.....6 1947.....9 1961 had the only hot summer...
  16. 1940...it could be the first time January had a higher temp. 69 than April's 68...
  17. 2008 had its hottest period the beginning of June...the rest of the summer was benign...it hit 77 in March this year...I think it stays below that temp...
  18. 1998 comes to mind but that came after five straight 80 degree days to end the month of March...the last time NYC had its first 70 degree day in May was on 5/5/1940...the record is 5/9/1875 for the latest 70 degree day...its going to be the first time January had a warmer day than April...
  19. don't be surprised if the summer wasn't a scorcher... I'm thinking a normal to below normal summer with average to above average precipitation as of now...1919, 1946 and 1998 are the analogs so far...
