2007 was the last time NYC had temperatures in the 50's for July and August...the 2010's had only two years that temps dropped below 60...Aug 2011 and 2013 had a min of 59 for the month.,.Compare that to the 1970's which had seven years and six in a row with July and August getting below 60...

1944 and 1977 were noted for its heat waves topping out at 100 degrees...I didn't look at maps for those years to see if the overall pattern was the same in late May...1944 and 1977 are both in the 11 year hot summer cycle...next year is the cycle year...1943 was a hot summer...one of the few that preceded the 11 yr cycle...

64 with low clouds...only made it up to 70 yesterday...

I was thinking the same but 1992 had a heat wave in May which turned out the hottest of the year...temps averaged below normal from March to November in 92...el nino lingered longer too...there is a difference between this May and May 92...

very little rain so far as the showers are dancing around Staten Island...sooner or later it will get here...

I wasn't born yet but the weather played a big part in both plane crashes into 40 wall st and the empire state building...fog was a big contributor for both...

May 2020 had temps in the 30's for the first time since 1978 in NYC...its just as hard to get temps into the 40's in June...the last time that happened was in 2000 when the lowest min was 49...The first week in June 1945 had temps in the 40's almost every morning...it was the worst start to June on record if you wanted heat...after mid month in 1945 it got hot and record heat ended the month...

the four summers from 1962-1965 were cooler than average and drier than average...August was especially cool...many record lows from those years still on the books for August...1963 set a record low...1964 broke it the next year...come October 1964 set a record high breaking the old record set in 1963...

its possible...2010 was hot too...2007 was a cool summer in a developing la nina year...

when we have low sun activity like the Dalton minimum for 25 years maybe then the earth will cool a bit...the year without a summer came during that period with help from volcanic activity...

1991 had the warmest May on record...none of the above years were developing la nina year...May 1992 had a heat wave...

that would probably keep temperatures below average and May has a chance of averaging below 60.0...
