  3. At the time it was the sea beach and West end trains...now it's the n for the sea beach and what ever letter the West end is today...
  4. when I used to take the train to Coney island it would pass Coney Island creek and the sunken tugboat next to the train bridge...my aunt at the time this picture was taken 1961 told me it sunk during the 1944 hurricane...

  6. yeah if you believe in the 11 yr hot summer cycle...high minimums is the biggest story so far and there is no end in sight...the cycle is mostly la nina years or developing nina years starting with 1955...1977 is the only el nino...going back to the 1800's 1977 and 1911 sre the only el nino years in that cycle...

  10. a sw wind comes over Brooklyn and Queens which is a large heat island...it does represent that part of the city...the wind direction has a lot to say about any local city weather station...where I live in Staten Island it gets as hot as any station with winds from the west to the north...

  12. back in the 60's and 70's we would get cool shots between heat waves...temps got as low as the 50's...I cant remember the last time NYC hit 55 in July or August...

  15. yeah the rising dew points and minimum temperatures go hand and hand...
  16. lowest minimum in NYC this month is 67...if that holds up it will be a new record for July...
  17. the last two years have been el ninos that went from bad to worse...there have been six years that followed a double el nino winters... 1954...54-55...not mild but snowfall was well below average... 1959...59-60...not cold but had above average snowfall...two storms a foot or more in places... 1970...70-71...cold but snowfall was well below average... 1978...78-79...cold with average snowfall...very cold and snowy February... 1988...88-89...mild with way less snow than average... 2016...16-17...not cold but had average snowfall...two major storms... so far the closest analogs are 1988 and 2016...1988 was a strong la nina by December while 2016 was a weak one...1970 was a moderate la nina by Dec...1954 was a weak la nina by Dec...1959 and 1978 were neutral in December after being in a very weak negative enso state...
