  5. has not happened since 1995...some other years...1960...1963...1966...1970-1980 had consecutive days with two events...I forgot 2013 and 2008...first signs of senility...
  6. this week reminds me of the week of Dec 20th-25th 1966...on the 20th there was some wet snow and rain which ended as an inch of snow on the 21st...A snowstorm on the 24th-25th put down 7"...when going into this winter I thought it was toast without a negative ao and nao at times similar to the 1973-74 winter...I'm hoping this period of negative ao lasts the rest of the month..
  7. 1932-33 was a very mild winter especially in January...it did get a 7" storm on the 17th but very little after that until February...February had a 10" storm...seasonal snowfall was near average... the 1932 storm from the Brooklyn Eagle... http://bklyn.newspapers.com/image/59970904/ http://bklyn.newspapers.com/image/59970913 http://bklyn.newspapers.com/image/59971128/ http://bklyn.newspapers.com/image/59971138

  10. its lame and confusing...years from now they will have to use the same names like they do with tropical storms...unless its historic they use the name again...
  11. when using the lame TWC winter storm names can you please add in the date of the storm because some of us don't know it or if you're like me and despise the names...
  12. winters with at least one 4" or more snowstorm in December for NYC...15 of 21 winters had 30" or more...only one was below 24"... winter....Dec 4" snows....seasonal snow... 2017-18.......4.6"....................40.9"... 2013-14.......5.0"....................57.4"... 2010-11.....20.0".....................61.9"... 2009-10.....10.9"....................51.4"... 2008-09.......4.0"....................27.6"... 2005-06.......5.8"....................40.0"... 2003-04.....14.0"....................42.6"... 2002-03.......6.0" 5.0"............49.3"... 2000-01......12.0"....................35.0"... 1995-96.......7.7"....................75.6"... 1993-94.......4.0"...................53.4"... 1990-91........7.2"....................24.9"... 1984-85.......4.8"....................24.1"... 1969-70.......6.8"....................25.6"... 1968-69.......5.2"....................30.2"... 1966-67........7.1".....................51.5"... 1963-64.......6.3"....................44.7"... 1961-62.......6.2"....................18.1"... 1960-61.....15.2"....................54.7"... 1959-60.....13.7"....................39.2"... 1957-58.......7.5"....................44.7"...
  13. take these clown maps and cut the amounts in half and it is still a nice mid December storm...as far as a white Christmas goes we would need a week long cold snap after the storm or another storm the following week...
  14. Dec 16-17 is the anniversary of the great ice storm in 1973...another analog mentioned this year...
  15. weather will do what it does regardless of what I want or what the models say now...they could be right...time will tell...I'd rather have it snow in two weeks but I'll take what I get...I got no choice...

  17. Dec 13-14th 1966 had a storm with wet snow and rain...no accumulations near the coast but some inland...it came at the ao's lowest point of that winter...-4sd...the nao was slightly neg but rebounded to positive where it was most of the time...I thought 66-67 was a good analog for this year...one can only hope this winter is half as good as that winter was...
