  4. if you look at snowfalls from before 1980 it seems they made a measurment when the storm ended...example ...Jan 12-14tgh 1964...A long duration blizzard that measured 12.5"...Snow depth reported as 13"...no snow on the ground before the storm...Same with the 1947 storm...they measured 26" and that was the depth when the storm ended...
  5. the driest ten years in NYC history was from 1956 to 1965...if you throw in a few years before and after there were many snowstorms and hurricanes along the east coast...I think the Oceans were cooler back then...when NYC got into this wet climate in 1971 there were only three years that had major snowstorms from 1970-1992...It was Feb/Mar 1993 when NYC started seeing bigger snowstorms again...

  10. its always been like that with snowfall...I was reading about a blizzard in Feb 1934 that gave NYC 9" but Long Island got at least twice as much...sort of like Jan 2015...a few others were like that but I don't remember what years it was...

  13. same here...I love storms like this...the great storm of Feb. 1920 storm lasted 74 hours with a two hour break...4.43" of le...17.5" of everything...this one will probably fall short of that lenth but we'll get more snow with less le...
  14. my analogs were colder in Feb and the long range looks good...blocking looks good too...January averaged 34.8 in NYC...its not that hard to beat...
  15. as I thought February will become the coldest month and snowiest month this winter...uness March continues the onslaught...
