my first big snowstorm was a few days before my seventh birthday in March 1956...then came March 1958...then came March 1960...1967 just missed...April 1982 just missed...March 1993 just made it...Staten Island got 12" in March 2018...

NYC only got 9.1" that month...

the coldest temperature so far this winter in NYC is 14 on 1/29...thats on the high side and high enough that March could have the coldest temp of the winter...March 2017 had a min of 14 tieing that winters low...I'm not predicting this to happen...but it could...

48-49 had more snow in January than posted...the 31st used to show a 4" wet snow event...Newark has it...

all three winters were cold in Dec and Jan but Feb was somewhat milder...2018 was very mild...2011 didn't have a March like 96 or 2018...

there are different ways la nina winters play out...most of the time if January is very cold February isn't...examples 1964-65...2008-09...Dec and Jan cold...Feb isn't...examples 1955-56...2000-01...then there are the ones that start mild and gradually get colder...Dec mild...Jan not as mild...Feb is cold...examples...1971-72...1973-74...March is always the wild card... some times March is a comeback month when February is mild...examples 1955-56...1983-84...2017-18... edit...winters like 1988-89 and 2005-06 had cold Decembers...Mild Januarys...Colder february's...

this would be the first la nina with both Jan/Feb having their monthly max 51 or lower...1963 and 1968 used to be weak la nina but was down graded when the changes were made...both years had 51 or lower both months...

bring back the zoo keepers...

it looks like they went with 3.2" for the date...if 0.06" fell as snow another half inch or so of fell after the 1pm measurement...even sleet would add a few tenths more...

round two's have not lived up to expectations so far...they hardly ever do...

I'm interested only because the record snow for the date was 3.5" set in 1928...

its like the storm I talked about that happened near the end of Feb 1974...NYC 2"...Freehold 10"...1973-74 was a usefull analog...

what time was the snow measured?...it got 0.44" of precip...

the first month I looked at was Feb 1894...it has 37.9" of snow but the snow depth doesn't add up and amounts are much higher than Central Park...Feb 1893 reported a storm of 17.8" on the 17th-18th and 32.0" for the month...snow depth was 10"...Central Park had 17.8" for the month...

more sleet now but still accumulating...
