when Boston ties NYC you know they had a bad year snow wise...

last April and the first half of May was one of the coolest six weeks without a warm day I can remember...this year March delivered a warm day but it looks like we have to wait till May for the next one...

so far the max April Temp is 73 ...Last April almost set the record for the lowest monthly max with 68 as its highest temp...1940 has the record at 67 for the monthly max...

go west through PA and then north to Buffalo...should be just rain that way...

I was looking at the radar this morning and I thought the line of rain would pass thru by noon...since then the rain has been redeveloping just to our south all day...

Hold the mayo...breaking records by 24 degrees is unheard of in todays world...especially record lows unless the period of record is short...1966 is recent for me but thats at least 55 years of record...

they don't call them clown maps for nothing...we saw our first 80 degree day on March 26th...when will the next 80 degree day come?... 1921 was 80 + on 3/21 and 3/28...next 80 was 5/9... 1945 was 80+ on 3/20/28/29...next 80 was 4/13... 1977 was 80+ on 3/29...next 80 was 4/12...(90)... 1985 was 80+ on 3/29...next 80 was 4/19...(88)... 1989 was 80+ on 3/29...next 80 was 5/18... 1990 was 80+ on 3/13 and 3/16...next 80 was 4/23... 1998 was 80+ from 3/27-31...next 80 was 5/15... 2021 was 80+ on 3/26...next 80 ???

1882 and 2003 had a relatively cool summer...I think the first 90 degree day came in July for both years...1982 had three hot weeks in July...otherwise it was quite cool...2003 was cool and wet to start and warm and humid to the end...

a few drops here as we were on the edge of the shower...

records from the 1800's had very little heat island to work with...the outer boroughs were mostly farms and trees...not to mention New Jersey where most of our cold air has to travel over before it gets here...I wouldn't throw out the old records but look at them differently...maye record highs and lows should only go back to the 1930's...

many Aprils ended up very warm after a cold beginning...1915 is the best example with 10" of snow on the 2nd and 91 degrees near the end of the month...yesterday was a great day although a little windy...today looks good too...

a warmer than normal April could be derailed if the ao/nao forecast is right...it could be coupled with a big pna rise...I would not be surprised if NYC ends up close to average for April with another possible near recold outbreak similar to last May but not to that extreme...

the cold spell in April 1975 was significant...1943 and 1950 had very cold Aprils...April rarely averages below 50.0 in NYC these days...2018 and 2003 are the only Aprils that averaged below 50.0 since 1975...before that 1967 despite record highs at the beginning of the month...
