1966 and 2010 were blazing hot summers followed by historic winters...throw in 1977 and a few others...
-
if its hot and humid enough to run the AC it don't matter how hot or humid it is outside unless you pay the electric bill...
-
there were a lot of summers with cool endings growing up in the 1960's...1963 had three torrid heat waves with the last one coming in late July...August and September 63 was one of the coolest on record...the year before in 1962 had a much cooler second half of Summer...recent years have seen summer hold on till mid September...
-
shot up to 88 now with the Sun out...
-
down to 78 after heavy showers...
-
nothing can be as bad as it was in the mid 1960's...or the 1930's out west...
-
how about a pipe line of water from the great lakes to the west...desalination of Ocean water too...
-
first thing I thought of when I went out this morning was how much it reminds me of Florida...so far today is saved by a thin line of showers along the coast...the line goes down to Virginia...I bracing for the heat...praying there will be some relief from it like you dont see in Florida...

I don't mind the heat as long as there is a few days of relief like the last two days...but I expect alot more heat in the next few weeks...hopfully there will be some cool days between heat waves...

I was up in the Poconos on the 4th in 1981 when heavy rains put out any fireworks that night...I was up state NY in 1967 when heavy rains brought in some cool air...driving home from upstate NY on the 4th in 1966 was a trip because some highways buckled from the heat...I was a baby in 1949 when it hit 102 on the 4th...the record still stands...
-
1978 was about as bad as it gets for July 4th...highs in the low 60's with light rain all day...the Poconos were about 10 degrees cooler...next year in 1979 it was even cooler...

the end of August 1986 had a cool down that saw temps drop to 50 in NYC (tied for the coolest Aug Temp) and 40's elsewhere...1965, 1976 and 1982 also had temps drop to 50 in the city...all developing el nino years...
-
NYC hardly ever gets below 60 in July and August...growing up in the 1960's the city routinely saw temps in the 50's in July and August...there were some exceptions...in todays world NYC rarely gets below the low 60's in July and August but there are exceptions...
-
lets not forget the dust bowl in the 1930's...that was a drought...many wild fires went un noticed because no one lived there...
-
