  4. 9/16/64 NYC has a low of 48 breaking the record 49 set in 1961...that record was broken in 1966 with a low of 47 and it still stands...
  5. record low for July 31st is 57 set in 1914...record low for August 1st is 59 set in 1895 and tied in 1964...I remember August 64 and the very cool first half of August 64...actually the first three weeks were very cool but the last ten days were warm to hot...baseball and weather were my main hobbies...when Mantle was hot the weather was cold...May 63 he almost hit a ball out of Yankee Stadium...he said it was the hardest ball he every hit...a few days later NYC set a record low of 39...latest 39 on record...August 64 he hits a 500ft home run to center at Yankee Stadium...two days later NYC set two record lows both 54 each morning...October 64 he hits a walk off home run in the world series...two days later NYC had its earliest 34 degree morning...August 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965 set many record lows...the 8/15/64 record low broke the record of 55 set in 1963...
  6. I've had just as many as Newark...its been either hot and humid or warm and humid with showers...not a bad summer if you like T storms...
  7. what ever gives us the most rain for tomorrow I'll take...one big cloud burst or an all day rain...the record rainfall for July is in reach...the years ahead of us are 1889 and 1975...the winters that followed those years were on the duddy side...
  8. 2007 was in the 50's on the 2nd and 24th...This summer is a little similar to the 1963 and 1964 Summers...near 100 to start and cooler ending...both Augusts were cool in 63 and 64...I doubt we see anything like those years but who knows...

  14. some la nina's have been cool at the end of July and August...1964, 2000 and 2007 come to mind...

January 1978 set the record that was broken the next year...January 1978 had 8.27" of precip and 20.3" of snow and sleet...February 1978 had only 1.59" of precip but 23.0" of snow...Feb 78 did not have a drop of rain...it all fell as snow...January 1981 is the only other month I know of with no rain at all...Just snow...

  17. NYC is on the verge of getting 10" of rain this month...the last time NYC had a month with 10" or more was in 2013...
  18. in the 60's the question would be when was the last time NYC had four straight days with dew points above the 50's...
  19. the foliage keeps night time lows up a little too...one reason they won't use the sheep meadow is possible vandalism...

  22. last year was the first time since 2010-11 that the nao was negative on average Dec and Jan...with an ao also negative no wonder NYC got a 10" snowfall in December and a bigger one Feb 1st...the last time NYC got a 10" snowfall or greater in Dec and Jan of the same year was in 2010-11...
  23. I don't like the cold spot east of Virginia...it might not be there the next run...
  24. if you want to speculate about global warming buy land in the wilderness up in Canada and Alaska...I'm to old and wont be around when palm trees will grow in Manhattan...
