on the evening 0f 2/16/1996 I was listening to oldies and they were playing the songs from 2/16/1958...The 2/16/1996 storm went on to break the daily snowfall record set in 1958...That's not the only time that has happened to me...

1970 just missed with three out of four...five straight 88 or higher...
-
What...I said it...these are three or more days with a max 80 or above for three days or longer starting around the first day of calendar fall...two of my favorite winters from my youth 1959-60 and 1968-69 had late heat...
-
late season warm spells are becoming more frequent in recent years... sounds like 1960-61...

I think Boston had months when everything that fell from the sky was snow...But I know of only two for NYC...January 1981 and February 1978...From Christmas to early February 1980-81 was one of the coldest on record...snowfall in NYC was below average because of being very dry...Then February does a complete U turn...March was very dry too but NYC did get a snowstorm...
-
fake news is everywhere...
-
I left out 1980-81 because it was a weak negative...the AO went negative in early March when NYC got an 8" snowfall...2018 and 1984 had a big winter comeback...1976 had a little March comeback when NYC had its biggest snowfall of the season...the only year without the biggest snowfall of the season jn March was 2011... some other torchy February's after a cold Dec and Jan with various enso... 1955-56...big March in 56... 1960-61... 2000-01...
-
nothing beats 2017-18 for a cold Dec-Jan and a torch Feb...if we do get another la nina this year there have been more than a few with a torchy February after a cold Dec-Jan... 2010-11... 2008-09... 1983-84... 1975-76... 1970-71...
-
I put my rain guage away until winter so no more flooding rains...
-
there hasn't been a really cold winter since 2014-15...2017-18 was cold to start but had a warm February...averaged 36.2...since the 1990-91 winter the average temperature for the Dec thru Feb period is 36.1...last year averaged 36.1...2014-15 averaged 31.7...2010-11 averaged 32.7...2003-04 was 32.4...2002-03 was 31.2...2000-01 with 33.5...1995-96 at 32.3 and 1993-94 with 31.2 were the coldest winters of the bunch and are below the long term average of around 33.6...2001-02 averaged 41.5...2011-12 was 40.5...2015-16 averged 41.0...those were the warmest...

the winter of 61-62 wasn't great in NYC but a 6-10" snowstorm on Christmas eve made that winter acceptable,,,
-
I'm up in Dingmans Ferry and we had a little light rain earlier and radar has more to come...62 degrees and cloudy now...
