Yesterday made it 17 of the last 19 days with below normal temperatures for August. We turn that around starting today through Wednesday before we fall back below normal to close out the month next weekend. Slight rain chances Wednesday night through Thursday. Chester County Records for today: High 100 degrees at Phoenixville (1948) / Low 40 degrees also at Phoenixville (1944) / Rain 2.91" at Coatesville 1SW (1908)

It appears that August will finish as the first below normal temperature month of the year (current estimate is 0.6 degrees below normal) and our first since last November when we were 1.2 degrees colder than normal. However, we do have an above normal temperature final week of August on the way with the warmest day being Wednesday when some spots may reach the 90's. If this happens this could well be the final 90 plus day of the year for some locations. Only a slight chance of a shower Monday evening otherwise continued dry. Chester County Records for today: High 101 degrees at Phoenixville (1943) / Low 40 degrees at Coatesvile 1SW (1927) / Rain 3.29" at West Chester (1905)

Updated Chester County Average Temperatures by Decade 1890's thru 2020's (only 4 years) IF we don't start to see some cooling over the remainder of the decade we have a chance that the 2020's could be the warmest complete decade since reliable climate data began to be recorded in the 1890's. So far in the 2020's we are running 0.6 degrees warmer than our warmest full decade - the 1930's.

I have updated the climate data base for Chester County to add additional stations. See the total list below. These include some that record all weather types (temperature, rain and snow), some just rain and snow and a few just rainfall amounts. This brings the total current and historical network up to 34 NWS COOP/MADIS/AWOS stations to 34. You will note I have included the mapping coordinates. The approximate midpoint latitude in the County is at 39.8 degrees - we have 18 stations north of there and 16 stations in Southern Chester County

56.4 for the overnight low. Our stretch of great weather looks to continue with a slow warming trend. In fact for some of the lower elevation spots by Wednesday we could touch 90 degrees. But any heat looks short lived as we fall back to more normal temperature levels to close out the new work week. Our only slight chance of rain looks to be Monday evening. Chester County Records for today: High 101 degrees at Phoenixville (1943) / Low 41 degrees also at Phoenixville (1973) / Rain 3.78" at West Grove (1933) from the remnants of The Chesapeake–Potomac hurricane.

Mr Mann and colleagues may want to focus on a new line of work.....they will need a near historic rest of the season to even approach this forecast. is this the worst forecast ever? Makes us feel real comfy on all of these climate forecasts we hear from alarmists like Mr. Mann!

This morning was the coldest August morning here in East Nantmeal in over 10 years with our morning low of 51.7. This was the coldest reading since the 51.5 on August 15, 2014. Quite a few of the lower elevation spots reached the 40's with the lowest being the 45.8 at Warwick Township. We should see the higher spots again remaining in the unseasonably chilly 60's for highs today before we start a warming trend tomorrow through the weekend. Chester County Records for today: High 102 degrees at Sadsburyville (1916) / Low 41 degrees at Phoenixville (1949) / Rain 2.73" at West Grove (1933)

No real heat anywhere in our future if the GFS is to be believed....

Most spots dropped into the 50's this morning with the lowest being in East Nantmeal at 57.3 degrees - that was our coolest reading since the 56.3 degree low back on June 28th. Temperatures today in the higher ridge locations will top out just below 70 degrees - if that occurs this would mark the first time we have failed to at least reach 70 degrees since the 66.1 degree high on June 11th. There is no rain in sight for the rest of this week and our below normal temps will gradually increase to near normal by the weekend. No real heat in our future and for some spots 90 degree days are possibly over for this season. Chester County records for today: High 100 degrees at Phoenixville (1983) / Record Low was 39 degrees at Phoenixville (1949) this is also the earliest recording of a sub 40 degree temperatures in county history. Rain 4.00" at West Grove (1939)

A cold front will cross the county from west to east early this afternoon. We could see a couple of storms but most of the heaviest rain should stay NW of Chesco. Almost autumnal weather on the way once this front passes with temps tomorrow struggling to escape the upper 60's in the higher spots of the county. Lower spots may well see some lows in the 40's by Wednesday morning. Dry weather should continue through next weekend with temps rebounding to near normal. Chester County record for today: High 99 degrees at Phoenixville (1931) / Low 45 degrees at Coatesville (1896) / Rain 5.60" at West Chester (1939)

Rain chances ramp up again this afternoon with some spots especially to the northwest of Chesco in line for some heavy rain. Another round of showers tomorrow afternoon with a sharp cold front passing through from west to east toward rush hour. By Tuesday temps will fall to well below normal levels with some higher spots on Tuesday not escaping the 60's for afternoon highs. Some lower spots may actually touch the 40's for lows by Wednesday morning. Chester County records for today: High 98 degrees at West Chester (2002) / Low 42 degrees at Phoenixville (1945) / Rain 4.44" at Phoenixville (1938)

Not our best weather weekend on the way. Some showers have already moved through the county this morning with more on the way through the weekend. We should start to see clearing later in the day on Monday. We then fall to well below normal temperatures starting on Tuesday...in fact on Tuesday some higher spots in Chester County may struggle to escape the 60's for high temps. We should see high temps for the remainder of the week staying in the below normal 70's all work week. Chester County records for today: High 100 degrees at Phoenixville (1944) / Low 41 degrees at Hopewell (1979) / Rain 5.28" at Coatesville (1928)

thoughts I would split down the middle the entire Chester County PA data set. With an annual average temperature analysis of the first 66 years of data from 1893 thru 1957 vs. the last 65 years from 1958 thru 2023. The average temperature from 1893-1957 was 53.0 degrees The average temperature from 1958 - 2023 was 52.6 degrees The last 65 years have been 0.4 degrees cooler than the previous 66 years.....alarming!!!!
