It looks like our wettest couple of days are on tap since the 5.86" of rain that fell between August 6th and 10th. Models show between 1.25" to as much as 2.75" of potential rain. A cold front will sweep through tomorrow night and end the rain....some models hint at a brief change to snow before ending. These type of rain to snow scenarios rarely work out the way the models project. Either way it is much colder to close out the week before we moderate to close to normal over the weekend with the potential of more rain.

Temperatures will be mild through Wednesday before we turn sharply colder by Thursday morning. Rain will arrive later this morning and be over before the PM rush hour. Rain amounts today will be light with less than 0.25". Rain will return by later tomorrow afternoon and this rain will be more significant with over an inch of rain across the entire area. The rain could end as some snow showers by late Wednesday night.

Today will be our 1st above normal temperature day in the last 12 days. Most spots should touch the low 50's. Mild weather will continue till Wednesday night when we turn sharply colder again with high temperatures both Thursday and Friday potentially staying below freezing. Rain chances both tomorrow and again Tuesday night though Wednesday could bring the area between and 1" to 2" of needed rain.

Although we have certainly had well below normal rainfall amounts here in Chester County across September and October we rebounded to almost 80% of normal in November. Overall on a year to date basis across all 19 current NWS/MADIS sites we are experiencing the 49th driest year with records back to 1893. In fact there have been 9 years with average rainfall across Chester County lower than 2024 just since Y2K. Rainfall ranges from as little as 35" at Atglen to as much as 50" at Avondale for November year to date.

Temperatures today will continue to be below normal for early December but will begin a moderating trend tomorrow that will peak on Wednesday before a return to colder weather to finish out the work week. Of note rain is likely both Monday afternoon into the evening and again Tuesday PM through Wednesday night. We could see as much at 1.50" inches of rain across the area.

Today will be our 10th straight below normal temperature day and the coldest day so far this young winter season. We start a nice moderating trend with temperatures rising to above normal levels by Sunday afternoon with high temperatures well into the 40's to near 50. Rain chances increase Monday night through Wednesday before possibly ending as a little snow on Wednesday night as we turn colder again.

Here in the Philly burbs of Chester County PA the 1st 5 days of December here in 2024 are off to the coldest start of the final calendar month since way back in 2002. That month in 2002 was also one of the 4 times we have enjoyed a White Christmas since Y2K. Could history repeat itself??

Following the frontal passage this morning any flurries or squalls will end. Temperatures will fall below freezing by late morning in most areas and continue to slowly fall into the 20's in most spots by 4pm. Winds could gust as high as 45mph and cause some power outages in the usual suspect spots (like mine). Tomorrow may be our first sub-freezing day of the season with highs not reaching freezing. We start a nice warming trend over the weekend that should last through mid-week before we chill down again by later next week. We may have several rain chances Monday through Wednesday.

Any squall could leave a quick coating to 1/2 inch of snow. Tomorrow will be very windy with temperatures falling from an early morning high just above freezing. Most spots will struggle to get above the freezing mark on Friday. Warmer with rain chances by next Monday morning's rush hour.

Below is some record climate data for Chester County PA since 1893 for the Month of December. Take a look at that delta between the average temperature during that warm recent December of 2015 vs. the record cold December back in 1989. Only a 27 degree average temperature difference!

Here in the Philly burbs of Chester County PA November 2024 ended with an overall average temperature across the County of 47.7 - this was the 19th warmest November since 1893 (see top 20 below). The coolest station was Warwick Park and the warmest was The Brandywine Regional Airport (KOQN) in West Chester.

A cold week ahead with well below normal temperatures across the area to start the first week of December. Mainly dry with the exception of a couple of light snow chances on Wednesday night and again on Saturday night.
