NAM gives most folks at least a little snow....if you choose to believe!

3KM vs 12 KM NAM

With our 0.26" of rain last evening, we are now above normal for rain this month and up to 95% of normal precipitation for the year to date. Today starts a stretch of at least the next week averaging at or below normal temperatures for Christmas Week. We will also have a couple chances of snow. The first chance is tomorrow afternoon into the night and again on Christmas Eve. It will turn very cold over the weekend with low temperatures in the single digits for many by Monday morning. Today also marks the 15th anniversary (2009) of one of our larger Christmas week snowstorms when between 10" to 15" of snow fell across the area. That snow led to one of our 2 most recent White Christmas (last one was in 2012).

6z NAM for the "potential" Friday PM event...

Today will be our last milder day as a cold front and some rain will cross the area later today into this evening. Close to normal temperatures tomorrow before a turn to much colder than typical for the weekend before Christmas. By Friday afternoon we may see some snow developing before the coldest weather so far this season arrives for the weekend. Highs should remain in the 20's Saturday through Monday with lows by Sunday night not too far from 10 degrees above zero.

We have picked up 0.93" of rain over the past 3 days here in East Nantmeal. We are now at nearly 95% of normal precipitation to date for 2024. We should see the sun return today with our warmest day for at least the next week. We should see high temperatures well into the 50's before they start to drop later in the day. Tomorrow is trending a good bit chillier than earlier forecast and is looking to be a pretty chilly and increasingly wet day by the afternoon into the evening. Temperatures may struggle to escape the 30's across the higher terrain. By Friday afternoon we could see some snow showers with a clipper type system before we turn sharply colder for the weekend with the coldest air of the young winter season.

We get a brief break in the rain today before rain arrives again later this evening. We could see another 0.25" to 0.50" of rain tonight. The sun returns and warmer tomorrow before we start a cooling trend that will lead to our coldest weather so far this season by the weekend. Rain chances again on Wednesday PM and maybe a little snow by Friday afternoon and evening before we turn sharply colder over the weekend.

We are off to our chilliest first 2 weeks of December in 15 years. We continue below average today with some rain and a little freezing drizzle arriving early this evening. Temperatures should rise to the mid 30's today before falling back to near or a little below freezing at the onset of precipitation. We should then see a slow rise in temperatures to above freezing by 9pm across all spots in the county. Rain should end by noon tomorrow before rain returns again tomorrow night. Rain amounts by noon tomorrow look to be in the 0.50" to 0.75" range. Warming through Wednesday and then back to seasonably chilly temperatures to close out the work week.

It looks like our wettest couple of days are on tap since the 5.86" of rain that fell between August 6th and 10th. Models show between 1.25" to as much as 2.75" of potential rain. A cold front will sweep through tomorrow night and end the rain....some models hint at a brief change to snow before ending. These type of rain to snow scenarios rarely work out the way the models project. Either way it is much colder to close out the week before we moderate to close to normal over the weekend with the potential of more rain.
