  1. Here in Chester County, we have started 2025 off as the 9th coldest January in the last 45 years. Only 2 days so far this year have featured above normal temperatures. Today and tomorrow could be the last above normal days through the end of this month. Some light rain tomorrow that could start as a bit of snow before the main snow event looks to arrive by late Sunday morning. The snow should stop by later Sunday evening. While it is snowing on Sunday temperatures will slowly fall during the afternoon into the teens by Sunday evening. During the day Monday temperatures will struggle to escape the mid to upper teens across the county. We will then see lows within a couple of degrees of zero both Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

  3. I would think we see a Winter Storm Watch by this evening....
  4. Still snowing lightly but steadily here in East Nantmeal with 1.3" of snow so far today. This brings our month to date total to 5.9" which is 2.6" above normal month to date. For the season we are up to 8.7" which is now only 1.0" below our normal seasonal snow through today.

  6. Colorful Euro map over the next 2 weeks...
  7. Coming down moderate to almost heavy now
  8. Some light snow this afternoon and evening with a clipper system could leave between 0.3" to as much as 1" of snow in spots. We should see our temperatures briefly rise above freezing on both Friday and Saturday afternoon. Snow may arrive on Saturday but will quickly turn to rain. An arctic cold front will cross the area on Sunday morning. A storm will form along this boundary. Now where this storm forms will determine if this is a plowable snow event or not. Either way the coldest weather since December 2022 will follow. Temperatures will fall to around 10 degrees on Monday morning and if we have a solid snowpack we could see low temperatures for both Tuesday and Wednesday morning next week below zero.

  10. From Professional Meteorologist Bernie Rayno: "Right snow looks like a 1-3" from I-81 in VA northward into eastern New England (includes, DCA, PHL, NYC and BOS). A narrow 3-6" from central and eastern LI to Cape Cod (as islands). Injection of arctic air in place means potential is there for much more if ENERGY is stronger"
  11. Our well below normal temperature wise January continues with only a brief respite Friday and Saturday before the coldest weather of the year arrives next Monday through Wednesday. We finally do moderate to near normal temperatures (upper 30's) by Friday and Saturday. Precipitation wise we have an increasing chance of some light snow tomorrow PM that should accumulate no more than a coating to an inch. Then showers on Saturday before a chance of some light snow or flurries by Sunday afternoon.

  13. Suppression with too much of a good (cold) thing....this reminds me of the winters of my youth in the 1970's cold but below normal snow. It was our least snowy but coldest decade in recorded history!
  14. The follow up storm to Sunday modeled on the Euro
  15. The latest model runs for model snow we will never have to shovel for the potential snow event on Sunday late afternoon and evening are below. Most models have some model snow - the GFS has none! That model remains a possibility.
  16. We are back to below freezing days and nights till Friday afternoon. Maybe some flurries on Thursday afternoon otherwise dry until Saturday. It will warm to close to normal by Saturday and we should see some rain that afternoon. But big changes start on Sunday with the arrival of a strong arctic front on Sunday. With the passage of the front, we may see snow arriving by Sunday evening. Whether it's flurries or a plowable event will be determined in a few more days. Either way the coldest air of the season will arrive by Monday night and last through much of next week. Of historical note on this date back in 1912 the coldest reading in Chester County PA history was recorded at Coatesville 1SW and matched on January 22, 1961 at Phoenixville of 19 degrees below zero.

  18. If the GFS has a clue.....next Tuesday could be our coldest afternoon since Christmas Eve 2022.
  19. GFS focusing on next Sunday evening - Canadian Tuesday-Wednesday....
