Ya try to have a good attitude and not let the weather control your mood too much. At some point though these midwinter rainstorms have become a real bummer.

Tidbits and DuPage are my go-to free sites for sounding progs. Not every site has soundings for every model but I think the NCEP suite are all available in one place or another.

Guidance has held serve and even ticked a bit warmer, so no concern in valley locations. Catskills and Berks could get icy still.

Yeah, I was mostly thinking irrespective of the .1" and .2" dustings. Those don't count for much. We've just conspicuously lacked so far the nuisance events that are more substantial than a coating. 2017-18 had four snowfalls of 0.8" here - those go a long way toward padding the stats in our climate

Agreed, and that would be a similar progression to last winter if it works out that way... maybe offset later by a week or two, since the lakes and rivers froze up in late December and started thawing in late January last season. I had 25.3" of snow at this point in 2018 with 42.5" still to come (almost exclusively after Feb 17th). I'd have to check, but I believe I'm at about 19 or 20" YTD now, so analogous on that front as well. The seven measurable snowfalls under an inch through Jan 31, 2018 amounted to 4.2", which accounts for most of the difference. We just haven't been getting nickle-and-dimed in between the fairly conventionally spaced significant events.

43F. Probably safe to say winter's back is broken even if the majority of our snow is still ahead of us... I don't expect any more deep, sustained cold.

-7 here as well, achieved at 1 am. Woulda been an absolute blowout if skies remained clear.

While maybe not totally precise across the board, look at how much warmer it is on the ridge where the wind is still up just a tiny bit. I'm just about 100 feet lower at -4 than the airport at +13. Razor-thin decoupling of the BL. This stuff rules... to blazes with big storms

I wouldn't dismiss the chance that tonight could feature the lowest temps of the cold snap in the favored radiating spots. I'm already down to 1F and falling quickly. Depends on how long the clouds stick around after midnight.

I'm at that part of the winter now where I'm essentially immune to feeling cold, and I love it. 6F feels like room temp with fleece lined jeans and a winter coat... no hint of a chill at all. I know it sounds pretentious, but it's really amazing how quickly one can acclimate if spending a lot of time outdoors.

Seems -7.4F will do it. Respectable. Not negative teens like 14-15, but that's my third or forth subzero low of the season so far... not the hallmark of an all-time worst winter as this is often claimed

That s/w glides comfortably south. Light snow southern NJ if anywhere.

Delayed but not denied. Village of Millbrook. Used to spend hours walking around town after school, thinking we were cool because we knew all the secret shortcuts and such. It kind of spoils the illusion when you get a couple hundred feet up and see that it's basically two blocks of buildings in the middle of the forest.

This was/is probably the most photogenic snowfall I've ever seen in my hood. I've never seen such total stickage to every last branch and reed... the only thing I can compare it to is heavy hoar frost on an ADK summit. Beautiful doesn't even begin to describe it. Very localized though in that respect, as noted above. My plan for this morning was to shoot Minnewaska, but after getting out past NP I saw it was complete powder that had already fallen off the trees. Luckily I left early enough that I was still able to make it back to the trails near me in time for sunrise.

Yeah, potent little thing. Makes me more all the more hungry for a clean 12+ event. 4.7" does it here, off to clear and revel
