It's all good, out of my control so I try not to spend too much energy fretting about it. I'll let ya buy me a beer at the long overdue NW burbs gtg. Definitely some tight gradients with this week's precip. The same areas seem to be favored day after day

Add another 0.97" this afternoon so far. Pool and pond alike are overflowing... maximum soppage.
-
Still out and not optimistic about restoration today. 1.67" in the Stratus from last night, 5.15" on the month so far. Drenched.
-
It's a total monsoon here. Absolutely biblical rain and lightning ...which I suppose means the linemen aren't working tonight

Yessir. Gone are the days of gentle summer storms, someone always gets walloped these days. Hard to tell if the storms are getting more severe, or we're just getting worse at maintaining the infrastructure.

It was my neighborhood's turn to get trashed yesterday. No power, cell signal, phone... trees and wires down all over. My place is fine except for all my corn getting blown down and squash leaves turning into Swiss cheese from penny-sized hail. My beloved tomatoes are no worse for wear, thank goodness

Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose...

.36" here since we switched from convection to stratiform. A wet start to the month imby. I know people are encouraged by the prospect of a drying trend on Sunday, but eh... days of sogginess sort of kills the vibe for me even if it's technically not raining anymore while manning the grill on the 4th.

Yes, you are privileged, and your totally baseless comment that "most people" won't work for a decent living shows that you have entirely the wrong attitude about it. I also have a pool, a bit bigger than yours in fact, and I'm privileged too. Acknowledging one's privilege has no shame. You could have made your point about heat sans the sanctimony and braggadocio. As homeowners, you and I choose a lifestyle that requires outdoor maintenance in some pretty appalling conditions. It shouldn't be a surprise, since it always gets hot in the summer. If another person's situation allows them to enjoy the sensation of hot weather without having to worry about the implications, more power to them. It's extremely tasteless to call names and cast aspersions. According to the CDC, cold exposure kills more Americans annually than heat-caused illnesses: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2016/12/17/cold-temperatures-kill-more-americans-than-hot-ones-cdc-data-show/. If you want to discuss concern for the elderly, let's talk about the 11,500 annual emergency room visits caused by shoveling snow: https://www.wmcactionnews5.com/2021/02/16/why-shoveling-snow-can-be-dangerous/ Like 95% of people on this board, I detest this weather. Just important to keep some perspective and realize that none of us is particularly special.

Peter Sinks of the east?

I know, right? My 70k gallon pool is gross, not refreshing at all. Even my private spa is too warm, I had to give my live-in masseuse the day off since there was just no point. Anyone who claims to "love" warm wx has never tried to climb into their Gulfstream G550 that's been sitting in the sun since getting back from breakfast in Naples. Normal people like you and me will never be able to reason with these folks.

I think you can pretty much assume that most PWS temps are several ticks too high with the sun as strong as it is this time of year, unless the owner has invested in an upgraded radiation shield... which I certainly have not. Rob's 93 seems reasonable, even a little lower than I'd expect, but I'm pretty sure I never actually got to 97 here. Same for any renegade 100+ readings in the area.

1.26" in the Stratus for a 24-hour total of 1.64". Tipper coming in way high at 2.06", but we excuse it during summer storm precip rates. High for the day at home was 97. POU's 98.6F rounds up to tie the daily record of 99 set in 1964.

I'll take the under. Poughkeepsie hasn't done it since 2011. Admittedly that doesn't have a ton of predictive power, but with it being as rare as it is, I'd want to see some really beastly ridging on the ensembles. Means look pretty troughy through the first 10 and beyond.
-
This used to be my solution as well until I simply had too many plants to buy cages for. Not sure if you guys realized this, but it's a bit warm outside. POU already to 97
-
All my peppers got toppled last night, so I'll need to return them to a vertical position before any more storms this afternoon. The supporting wires are already in place, it's just a matter of tying the plants up. Still a bit of an arduous task in this heat since I have about 50 plants. I'm not sure why my peppers are always so prone to, well, lying prone. I know excess N can cause corn stalks to fall over, but I don't know if that translates to other crops.

.38" in the bucket from the storms after midnight. Low was 74. 84/74 now
-
A little relief here with outflow from the storms to my north. 76/71... not a huge improvement, but noticeable for sure Edit: now it's raining, so the RH reprieve will have been short-lived.
-
Stopped at 97 by some clouds and showers in the area. Weak.
-
I wonder if headlines for things like heat aren't more for emergency management than for the general public. Deciding whether to open up municipal cooling centers, etc.
-
The heat will rally late today as winds turn WNWerly, drying dews a bit and reaching a more favorable angle for downsloping. 98-99F at POU seems likely to me
-
How's the water temp? I haven't been to squammy since early May
-
95/77, heat index 110... allegedly. We definitely dew but I don't think quite to that preposterous level.

94F: sit on the couch and swelter 100F: sit on the couch and swelter but this time the temperature has three numbers
