  1. My final winter rating is. November-December D January A February D+ March A Final grade B A few major storms. Some good white outs. Most of January snow cover. Not bad.
  2. It looks like snow showers this weekend and will we see any accumulating snow?
  3. The strong winds have made for some nice snow drifts today. I haven’t seen that in a while.
  4. Same here. That streamer has been pretty stationary the last 2 hours from my area tracking thru monroeville.
  5. Nice streamer coming out of the northwest through cranberry coming right into my backyard. Been snowing heavy for the last hour with gusting winds. It looks like it’s heading into monroeville and south.
  6. Wow. A solid over performer. 7 inches here. I just had a squall dropping visibility to near zero. Wind is really howling out of the north and snow is drifting on my roof.
  7. Turning in so I can get up early. One inch already on the ground with moderate snow falling. Well on our way to 4-6. I’m thinking if these rates can keep up we may exceed 6 inches by mid morning. My temp is down to 30 and driveway and roadway are starting to get covered. I will be up to take the dog out at 7:00 and take a measurement.
  8. We are getting 4-6 inches and most of it will fall between 2:00 am and 9:00 am. Then snow showers after that accumulating an additional inch or so off and on during the afternoon. MY Final Call.
  9. Not to bring people down but to me a lot of times it comes down to timing of the storm. For example: yesterday I received close to 4 inches of snow in a 4 to 5 hour period. We had 4 hours of moderate to heavy snow and I was able to see it and be in it. What if we get 5-7 inches of snow with the next storm and the majority of it falls from midnight to 8:00 am? Big deal I wake up to all that snow on the ground and the snow is is winding down to light stuff and is over. Then I get to shovel it. Not fun but we got a 7 inch snowfall. Big wow. Question for everyone here. 1. Would you rather have 4 inches fall in 4 hours with big flakes during the day or 2. A foot of snow overnight while we sleep and is over when you wake up? I go with 1.
  10. If we get a March 1993 blizzard the complainers will still say it was an average winter. The complainers will not be satisfied until we get 80+ inches and several blizzards. Then they will complain that it could have been 100 or Christmas wasn't snowy enough.
  11. I get it but those map totals are not real time. I think they update them every 6 hours or so based on the information they have. If everything holds true then you will see them come down this evening.
  12. I disagree. They need to keep everything on the table till the end. They can't drop everything back based on one model. A watch is a watch. It does not always have to upgrade to a warning. I am quite sure if the other models start dropping totals then the WWA will be issued tomorrow. If they come back then west with more precip then you will see a WSW. I agree they all blew yesterday's storm but they are just following protocol. Let's wait till tonight to see. This is a complex system. We could end up with a strong cold front with snow showers only on Saturday.
  13. Things were looking good like a solid 4 inches but the Euro has come in dry and giving us 2 or so. Right now the Euro is on it's own but the others may come around.
  14. Yes about 3.5 here. Snow has finally started to lighten up and my temp has gone from 33 to 35. Beautiful site out there with the snow pasted on everything but it is all starting to fall off the trees and power lines. I noticed on the HRRR last night that there was a narrow band of 2-4 inches that was showing up on the western flank near the Pa Ohio border. It looks like that band moved about 60 miles east and got us
  15. The band is narrow and Allegheny County is in the sweet spot. I just saw a post from New Castle where they have bare ground. I just measured and picked up another inch over the last hour. Now totaling 3 inches. I am going to have to shovel again when this lets up.
  16. Just to show how quickly things can change here is the NWS Discussion at 7:20 am just as the moderate to heavy snow was falling at my house. National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA 720 AM EST Wed Mar 9 2022 .SYNOPSIS... Rain and snow will gradually taper by tonight, with high pressure returning dry weather through Friday. Accumulating snowfall should blanket the region Friday night into Saturday with a crossing cold front. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... Recent radar imagery suggests rain and snow overspreading the region this morning as persistent shortwave activity in warm, swly flow plagues the region on the van of a broad, digging central Plains trough. BUFKIT soundings and initial data from the KPIT sounding suggest a relatively warm boundary layer; and with sfc temperature in the 30s across the region, accumulating snowfall should be hindered even with the passage of an 850mb trough later this morning. Cold advection in veering nwly wind should then reinforce mid-level colder air, maintaining snow or rain/snow chances through the duration of the event. However; the aforementioned, mild boundary layer should minimize snowfall accumulation potential, with perhaps inch or so in the highest elevations.
  17. It's not a cutter. The low transfers and redevelops to our east. It will be one to watch because depending upon when the transfer happens we could be looking at 2-4 or 6-10. I'd play it safe with the lower totals for now but it will be a nowcast of a storm like this morning.
  18. This morning reminds me of a day in either 1980 or 1981 when I was going to college downtown and I drove to class. We were expecting mixed snow and rain showers and no accumulation and it snowed like this until lunch time. It took me 2 hours to drive home to West View and we ended up with 6-8 inches of heavy snow.
  19. Me too. I washed the car on Sunday and brought in my snow ruler and put it away on the shelf. Had to get it out again.
